Santo Domingo Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo), Quito
(4.4/5 based on 80 reviews on the web)
Standing grandly over a broad plaza, Santo Domingo Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo) represents one of Quito's most important religious structures. Dominicans built the original structure in 1540, which Italian priests later modified in the 19th century; the result is a visible mixture of styles throughout. Standing outside, notice the Baroque church tower, featuring the city clock; step inside to see both neoclassical and Baroque art pieces accenting the interior, including sumptuous gold-leaf woodwork. Look for the famous sculpture of Virgen del Rosario, as well as artwork from the Quito School of Art. Combine your visit with a stroll around the square. • I'd advise against visit of day put the Sun is super hot and don't have a shadow to rest. In addition to the lights to show the part overnight.

  • I visited the square where the Church and watched the lights festival, which in the case of Santo Domingo is a projection of images on the façade ... a movie tailor-made for the architectural details of the Church. Not to be missed.

  • The Dominican Church is located in the heart of Quito's old town and the third of the tourist attractions of Quito, is next to the Church of la Companía and the Church of San Francisco something drops but compared to the other two at first glance, because it has not quite so many gold-leaf decorations. For this to get a good impression of life of the Dominican monks in the connected Museum.

  • A must visit place if you come to Quito
  • Interesting.
  • Located in the heart of Quito's old town, Santo Domingo Plaza stretches ago one's eyes. Soothing the tourists in a church was built in 1580, in the San Francisco church and convent of la Compagnia flamboyance is not furnished. La Compagnia, San Francisco church and convent as well as suggest a location of Quito tourism
