Santo Domingo Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo), Quito

(4.4/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
Standing grandly over a broad plaza, Santo Domingo Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo) represents one of Quito's most important religious structures. Dominicans built the original structure in 1540, which Italian priests later modified in the 19th century; the result is a visible mixture of styles throughout. Standing outside, notice the Baroque church tower, featuring the city clock; step inside to see both neoclassical and Baroque art pieces accenting the interior, including sumptuous gold-leaf woodwork. Look for the famous sculpture of Virgen del Rosario, as well as artwork from the Quito School of Art. Combine your visit with a stroll around the square. • This church is very beautiful in its construction since its contribution is both Spanish and aborigine, the constructions of that time are made with respecting and beach - that and stone more than to have a Museum of the vestments of the priests that vestían in their times

  • I attended an evening mass in this church, and it was a great experience. Close to the church there are several spots where you can get a great view of Quito.
  • In the historic centre another place to walk around and learn more about churches and architecture, every corner has great works, paintings, and if you want a moment of peace and prayer this is the place.

  • A must visit place if you come to Quito
  • Interesting.
  • Located in the heart of Quito's old town, Santo Domingo Plaza stretches ago one's eyes. Soothing the tourists in a church was built in 1580, in the San Francisco church and convent of la Compagnia flamboyance is not furnished. La Compagnia, San Francisco church and convent as well as suggest a location of Quito tourism
