Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande), Quito
(4.6/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Mingle with the crowds and get a sense of colonial Quito at Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande). Ever since the early 17th century, the square has functioned as one of the city's main public spaces. What was then just a cleared patch of earth is now a picturesque square surrounded by historical buildings, including a cathedral, the presidential palace, and a luxurious hotel. The square's monument to independence symbolizes the struggle for South American freedom from Spanish rule. Stake out a spot at one of the numerous cafes and restaurants to relax and people-watch. • This beautiful square is in the heart of the historical center of Quito, adorned with colonial buildings and the spirit of the locals. You are accessible through the trolleybus - stop Plaza Grande. In the square is the Archbishop's Palace, access to the Palace of Government of Carondeley and the Cathedral. If you visit Quito is a must stop place.

  • The main square of the city, located in the historic centre. It is interesting to sit a few minutes in one of their banks to see the everyday bustle of the Quito. It is highlight and congratulate the population on the cleaning and care that has.

  • It's amazing the amount of people and tourists strolling through this immense square, especially on weekends. The square itself is a great attraction and has wifi. Here also has several street vendors, snacks and fruit.

  • This is a nice hotel near the main square. It is a converted villa, which made it quite interesting. Our room featured a loft for sleeping which I didn't care for.
  • An elegant and unique antique house that has been always one of the most beatiful hotels in the heart of Quito's old town.
  • Beautiful view of the city of Quito by night.
  • Beautiful and important square.
  • Absolutely beautiful, a must see
