Museo Manuela Saenz, Quito

4.4
#12 of 37 in Museums in Quito
Established in tribute to an important figure in Ecuador's struggle for independence, Museo Manuela Saenz remains a major attraction in Quito's old town. Personal items like ornaments made from ivory, paintings, sculptures, documents, and china offer invaluable insight into Saenz's life. Pay special attention to items marked with the initials "SB"--these belonged to Saenz's lover Simon Bolivar. Guided tours are in Spanish, but private tours in English can be easily arranged. Private collection very very small, no museographic analysis, certificates with errors in descriptions and expensive for the low volume of significant pieces possessing. Health without water. Video of home very long 45 minutes. He would not return to the "Museum".

We had to knock on the door three times to get in. The gatekeeper was unfriendly. The museum at least let us know about her romantic, warrior and caring sides, but was not worth it as a destination.  more »

Exhibits a variety of parts and belongings of Manuela Sáenz, books, frames, beauty accessories, and weapons of the own manuelita, is without a doubt an entertaining walk through time to understand a little more influence so imposing woman in the life of Simón Bolívar. The Museum also displays on its first floor a collection of Christs of the epoch of the Quito School, and their last room a collection of weapons from different ages and origins. It is a museum with a cost of $4 dollars per adult, the route is guided and lasts approximately 45 minutes.

It is located in a historic mansion. 11 exhibition halls with personal objects of Manuela Sáenz activist political Quito which formed an important part of the Ecuadorian libertarian exploits can be found on the 3 floors. You can find works of art, books, weapons and some letters he received from the Liberator Simón Bolívar with whom he had an affectionate relationship. I recommend it widely.
