Ranking as one of the highest statues in the world, La Virgin del Panecillo stands as an aluminum sculpture assembled with more than 7,000 pieces. Built to honor the Virgin Mary, the statue depicts a graceful, serene image complete with wings and floral halo. Since the statue’s completion in 1974, the image has served as an icon of the city and a top sightseeing attraction.   • What a beautiful place to get a wonderful view of the city! There are also a number of little shops and eateries along the road. 
  • The top of this hill and this statue of the Winged Madonna is worth seeing. You can see the entire Old Town of Quito from here and the view is spectacular!
