El Panecillo, Quito
(4.3/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
For unmatched views of the capital city and its neighboring volcanoes, climb to the top of El Panecillo. The hill stands 200 m (656 ft) high between south and central Quito and comes from volcanic origin. Reach the top by a set of stairs at the end of Calle Garcia Moreno, or opt for a relatively inexpensive cab ride to the summit. Atop the hill, admire the statue of the Virgin of Quito, built between 1955 and 1975. Locals will be quick to inform you that this is the only virgin statue that sports angel wings. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Quito holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the El Panecillo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I visited this place taking advantage of that tour of Quito (Quitour) makes a short stop. really the view of the city is worth. It makes a little cold and the breeze blowing strong. There is a small very colorful Crafts Square. as always very friendly people. It is a place that you must visit when you go to Quito

  • Despite having a reputation for dangerous, the region worth be visited with some local resident as a guide, as well as a good way to get exercise, at the end of the climb you can envision the whole city

  • We were dropped off here as part of a bus tour. The views are amazing and offer a great picture of Quito - its size and contrasting buildings from old to new.

  • Quick trip up by taxi (we were told it wasn't safe to walk) and we'll worth it. Great views of the city and I just love this statue.
  • Fantastic site, with a great view of the city.. Just dont send off the taxi, or you'll have to walk down (not recommended)
  • If you visit Quito, just make sure to hit this site, must go on your checklist: iconic, great views of Quito.
  • Excellent view and a very interesting aluminum sculpture. Worth paying to go in and see the stained glass and the walkway around the top.
  • Beautiful views of Quito - unfortunately you have to catch a cab up there because the surrounding streets are dangerous.
