Religious Site
Feast your eyes on the luxuriously decorated walls and ceiling of Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral). In contrast to its crisp white exterior, the cathedral's insides dazzle with colorful murals, marble columns, and gold decor. Built in the 16th century and damaged by a handful of natural disasters over the years, including a volcano eruption and an earthquake, the cathedral was declared Ecuador's most important Catholic church in 1995. Make the most of the guided tour included in your ticket price. Tours come in Spanish and, depending on the availability of guides, usually in English. Plan your visit to Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral) and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Quito vacation route planner.

  • Interesting Spanish architecture at this church that fronts the main square in the old town.
  • The view from the towers is worth the visit, be sure to not only go up in the first towers but also up the one in back. For this one you have to follow a wooden path inside the cathedral's roof.
  • Awesome architecture. Definitely worth visiting
  • Inspiring to visit.
  • The beauty inside this church provides proof that there is a God.
