Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral), Quito

(4.3/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Feast your eyes on the luxuriously decorated walls and ceiling of Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral). In contrast to its crisp white exterior, the cathedral's insides dazzle with colorful murals, marble columns, and gold decor. Built in the 16th century and damaged by a handful of natural disasters over the years, including a volcano eruption and an earthquake, the cathedral was declared Ecuador's most important Catholic church in 1995. Make the most of the guided tour included in your ticket price. Tours come in Spanish and, depending on the availability of guides, usually in English. Plan your visit to Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral) and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Quito vacation route planner.

  • The Cathedral is large and there are several areas to visit. There is a library, display of ecclesiastical robes and religious objects. During my stay there was a children's choir practicing, this gave a beautiful atmosphere. Admission is $3 for tourists and there should be no photos.
