Las Tintoreras, Puerto Villamil

4.7
#1 of 6 in Parks in Isabela
Get in touch with the local aquaculture population with a visit to the islet of Las Tintoreras. The turquoise waters of the bay are sheltered, providing a perfect spot for sea lions, sea turtles, marine iguanas, stingrays, and reef sharks to hang around. At low tide, the bay is connected to a small shallow pool of clear water, where you can get an up-close look at the sharks. Survey the marine life from a lava deck above, or grab your snorkel and jump right in. Our Puerto Villamil trip itinerary planning site makes visiting Las Tintoreras and other Puerto Villamil attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Spectacular spot right in the bay. Turtles, penguins, rays, sharks, sea lions, marine iguanas, etc. Definitely worth the short tour and cold snorkel. Tour guide required.
  • Half day trip done to Las Tintoreras where I had many expectations of not in advance. Why I don't know. But it was beautiful and I'm so surprised! First a walk on the island with many Marine iguana's and then snorkeling in the Bay. What a beauty! Many sea turtles, stingrays and a Penguin in the water, a group of sea lions. The snorkeling what I've done the days after this tour, could not compete here!

Where to stay in Puerto Villamil

As the largest town on the island and a jumping-off point for Galapagos explorations, Puerto Villamil offers plenty of places to stay. The main coastal road has the greatest concentration, including a nice selection of boutique hotels with swimming pools, spas, and excursion booking desks. Meanwhile, a pleasant set of simpler hotels and guesthouses still offers good views along the coast. Move a bit inland to find a scattering of hotels and bed and breakfasts, offering either resort-style luxuriousness or a budget-friendly simplicity.
