  • Pacha's is a lovely little shop with many chocolate treats. We made several trips there during our stay in Puerto López and thoroughly enjoyed our chocolate treats. I brought some raw beans and chocolate to bring home to make chocolate with nibs. Everything was superb... setting, service and food. Highly recommend Pacha completo for chocolate lovers.

  • After a short drive with the owner to a nearby farm with a small cocoa plantation, we learned about the history of cocoa cultivation in the Americas, the different varieties of cocoa plants, and a whole lot about the cocoa fruit and the process of extracting the seeds and preparing them for further use. BONUS: we got to taste the cotton-candy-like flesh covering the cocoa seeds-sooo delicious and refreshing, and I had no idea this even existed! After the trip to the farm we went back to Pacha Chocolates where the manual processing of the cocoa seeds (roasting, de-husking and crushing, grinding and separation of cocoa mass and butter) were shown to us. Amazing to see that chocolate can be made using such simple tools and machines! This also made it very easy to really understand and appreciate the artisanal process of chocolate making. Between the different steps being shown and explained to us, we were served a delicious array of cocoa products: soft from cocoa-husk tea, to "cold" chocolate with an incredible cream and pure chocolate brownies, and a tasting of hand-made milk chocolate and dark chocolate. When I tasted the 87% cocoa dark chocolate I understood what we had been told at the farm about Ecuadorian "fine" cocoa... never before had I tasted a dark chocolate so rich and smooth, without any offending hardness or bitterness. All in all it was a great tour, with friendly and welcoming people and a host of information about cocoa and chocolate. An experience as rich as the treats we were served that I wholeheartedly recommend to any chocolate lover! I might add that the entire tour was given in Spanish, which our worked fine for us, but might be an issue for other tourists.

  • looking for gifts for the return and a villager recommended me this site... I CHARM. The sra.encanrgada spoke to me of how he made his latest creations and products... To invite me to try, I thought "here I am". EXCELLENT quality and in addition to chocolates I bought very exquisitely wrapped handmade soaps.
