Laguna las Ninfas, Puerto Ayora

4.3
#3 of 17 in Nature in Galapagos Islands
Stroll the wooden pathway under bright green mangroves at Laguna las Ninfas. Study the water for sea turtles and baby sharks, and pay attention to descriptive signage to learn more about the trees. Away from the busy harbor (but an easy walk from the town center), the inlet supports many bird species, such as waders and warblers, which nest in mangrove treetops. The lagoon's blend of fresh and salt water teems with marine and freshwater fish, playful sea lions, and stingrays. • Small park we visited at the end of the day, and then devoting not long, following the path along the walkway from the entrance in practice revolves around this lagoon. Maybe for now, we could only see some fish and some marine flora, in addition to the mangroves that are located at different points. It seems, however, that it is also the habitat of other species such as sharks, rays and turtles that didn't meet but we rather then looked at the pier

  • A place to appreciate the silence and the sounds of the mangrove. It is not a lake is an estuary, to sea lions with luck they can be found.

Where to stay in Puerto Ayora

As a popular jumping-off point for Galapagos visitors, Puerto Ayora receives loads of tourists, and therefore features many of the accommodation options you might expect from a major destination. Though there are types of lodging to suit all kinds of budgets, prices in general tend to be higher in Puerto Ayora than in mainland Ecuador. The more upscale hotels catering to wealthier visitors lie along the waterfront in the vicinity of Avenida Charles Darwin, and offer excellent access to the sea, port, and restaurant scene. Consider renting out a private apartment room or staying in a smaller-scale hotel a few blocks back from the ocean in order to cut down on costs, as the city itself is easily walkable.
