  • We were a group to visit with a foreign guest, it is an engineer of the Republic, El Salvador, and other friends. We had a very pleasant morning taking him to different places from the city of Otavalo. It felt Super, as in one place so there was crafts of all kinds. He bought different things, that in Central America did not have them. Truly ones are craftsmen and others artists, but, all is care in present different objects in different materials to be sold, these are: wool, leather, wood, silver, corals, stones, instruments music, hammocks are woven or in fabric, shoes, espadrilles, earrings, bracelets, discs of music with instruments native. As we said: would there is such a variety of handicrafts, which not is what to wear, everything I love, and the prices are good? Like tapestries to hang them in his house, embroidered with colorful wool weaving. Charangos type small guitars, made from the shell of the armadillo, animal that finds it in Ecuador. They are located in row tents, and all serve with much kindness and patience, to prove what you want to buy, without haste, and there are discounts on prices. You liked the lurkers of bamboo, or known in the world as Bamboo, and they sound sounds pleasant to the ear with decibels with very subtle. There are ponchos of all models and textures, some embroidery, fabrics with loom, other plain, unadorned, depending on the taste of the buyer, that is who chooses the one to your liking? Necklaces brought corals of our seas, especially of the Galapagos Islands, and those are that are used with much elegance and pride our Indians in Otavalo. In clothing: cotton fabric trousers, with purse how to use indigenous males, there are blouses, hand-embroidered in Zuleta with colors in play with the skirt being a wool cashmere anaco, therefore, blouses flowers are the color of the skirt, blouse has white color, almost always. You are also girdles as a belt that goes around the waist, and they are loom with white base and very colorful wool to give the shape of flowers, or animals. It is nice, that, sellers men and women wear their outfits with their typical clothing and this is a hook, to sell the native, carry it carefully. Cotton patterned shirts are sealed, or embroidered, with allegories of Otavalo, are very regional, this is good. Them out for sale from different communities and it is worked with their hands, they are skilled for work manual and craft, sometimes finding artists.

  • This is the most famous Andean artisan market, however for me as Ecuadorean it's a shame; people increase the price of everything if your a foreigner, and there's garbage everywhere and you will find ...  more »
  • It is the traditional place of Otavalo. It is a small square where the otavaleños are located with their beautiful characteristic costumes sell crafts in the area that they have made, or bought other families of Otavalo and sell them there. It is good to talk with people, indigenous otavaleños, to learn more. He works every day, but many more come on Saturday and the day Wednesday.
