  • Full to stalls with amazing hand crafted things. After a bit of wonder you come to realise that all the stalls have more less the same things to offer.  more »
  • A place in which we can see the industriousness of the indigenous people of Otavalo "Valley of the dawn". Every tourist who comes to the Ecuador wishes to know this picturesque place, of multicolored fabrics produced on looms, imbaya culture heritage.

  • A great market to wander around in. If you go on Wednesdays or Saturdays the market spills out into the street for about five blocks around the square. It's truly amazing to stroll around eating some local food and taking a look at the local artists. True, like any big market you will find a lot of the same stuff being sold at a lot of the vendors. And a lot is made in China not locally made. But if you spend the time you can find some great items. As with any place a lot of people gather at you need to keep an eye on your valuables. It's pretty safe, but there are more then a few pick pockets amongst the crowd.
  • Perfect if you want to buy native crafts, souvenirs for your friends, and develop your bargaining skills. If you're travelling North of Quito, definitely worth the visit. It does have a tourist trap vibe, but the products and the people are real.
  • Good for a one time experience. The vendors mostly sell the same things. Some stuff is probably not even Ecuadorian, but mass produced somewhere else. There are some artisan items, but not many. It is a good place to get textile items at a cheap price. The wool and Alpaca scarves are great, and The Panama hats can be a good bargain too. Bargain hard and don't be afraid to walk away until you get a sense for what things really cost.
  • One of the biggest and most colorful handicrafts markets in the world. A must visit during your stay in Ecuador.
  • Very great place to haggle prices for Nick nacks, blankets and ponchos
