  • From Otavalo you have several possibilities to reach the Laguna: 1) you take the Green bus from the Terminal, goes to Quiroga and there takes a taxi to the lagoon. (2) take the blue bus to Cotacachi and then the taxi by the Terminal to the lagoon. In both versions, the bus fare is 35 cents pp and the taxi/Jeep 5-6 dollars. (3) taking a taxi from Otavalo directly to the Laguna. It will then cost $10 per taxi. The taxi/Jeep can usually be one at the restaurant/boat dock on the lagoon out. From there, you can then take the path left to the Mirador and there decide in which direction you would like to go around the lagoon. We opted for the walk in a clockwise direction around the lagoon. The decision turns out for us as a suitable, as was always the lagoon and the Vulkan Cotacachi in sight while running up and down then lie the Vulkan Imbabura as well as the Valley, in which Ibarra and Otavalo. Also, the climb to the highest point is slowly rising and only shortly before it gets steep, where it has treads but pleasant. If you go on the hike in the anticlockwise direction, you have a long and relatively steep part and also not-so-great views up to the highest point... But all the his :-) The park entrance fee is free (you must register only briefly) to the tour:. The hike took around 4 hours (depending on condition). We started in the morning at 9: 00 and at 13:45 (4 hour cruise + 3/4 hour break) arrived back at the starting point. The trail is very nice (nature trail, so nix with asphalt), very well marked and well maintained. Again, there are benches where you can rest and enjoy the view. At the highest point, indoor benches (thatched roof) are around for picnic. The hike itself is not very tiring, even better if one is already accustomed to the altitude. I would recommend anyone on the hike. If one circles around the lagoon in a clockwise direction, you reach at the end of the hike to the "Centro de Interpretacion", where a small and exciting Museum to the Reserva is located.
