A birdwatchers paradise, Paz de las Aves Bird Refuge attracts visitors with its variety of birds including toucans, ant pittas, cocks of the rock, humming birds, and tanagers. The family owned bird sanctuary, established in 2005, offers tours ranging from a couple of hours to overnight, allowing you to view over 80% of the bird species inhabiting the refuge. Mindo is a small town, but it offers an impressive variety of hostel accommodations. Options in rustic hotels near the Mindo River range from basic rooms with few amenities to spacious suites with lots of extras.
