Once the scene of a bloody massacre Laguna de Yahuarcocha is thought to be around 12,000 years old. Visit this tranquil lake, which is said to be a relic of the post glacial period. Today the lake is abundant with bird life and is a popular recreational area. Watch for herons, egrets, and ducks. Take advantage of the serene water by going canoeing, swimming, and fishing. Leave time to visit one of the many restaurants along the lakeshore, which serve fresh fish from the lake. Our Ibarra family vacation planner makes visiting Laguna de Yahuarcocha and other Ibarra attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Yahuarcocha Lagoon is a quiet place, a park to go preferably to spend the day at plan picnic. It can easily be from Quito, just catch a bus to Ibarra and a couple of blocks from the station, take a bus line that takes you to the lagoon. It is a nice environment but it is not an essential if you are travelling to Ecuador.
