Its inauguration in 1920 marked the centenary of Guayaquil's independence. Look for the statue commemorating the founding fathers, which pays tribute to the heroes who liberated the city on October 9, 1820. • Nice plaza park. Fenced in with only one entrance open. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the day and the shade. Vendors ring the park and will sell you water, etc.
  • Beautiful park. Ik didn't like the atmosphere that much. Seems to be a meeting place for men.
  • It's partially closed. It has only one gate and exit for the same road and around this park there's prostitution and some thieves.
  • It was a nice park. Funny to find lots of elderly men just chilling, and reading their newspapers. Will love to visit again, and watch the city buzzing in the daytime
  • The park's doors are often closed, especially if there is a demonstration. So you may have to see the place from outside.

Where to stay in Guayaquil

Guayaquil's sprawling layout means its center isn't strictly defined, with accommodations spread throughout several neighborhoods. To enjoy the most iconic Guayaquil setting, stay in the riverside neighborhood of Las Penas. For easy access to public parks and some of the best attractions in Guayaquil, stay in the bustling district of La Bahia. If you want a more suburban experience, look farther north to the neighborhood of Simon Bolivar.
