Iglesia San Francisco, Guayaquil

Religious Site
Visit Iglesia San Francisco, the city's third oldest church and the symbol of Catholics all over Guayaquil. The building dates back to the very early 18th century when the structure was made entirely from wood, though it has undergone several renovations since that time. The history of the church dates back further to the 17th century, and links inscrutably to the movement of San Franciscans to Guayaquil, bringing their religion with them. The local attendance of this church remains particularly high, so a visit offers a glimpse of local everyday life. Using our online itinerary creator, Guayaquil attractions like Iglesia San Francisco can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • The church sits right next to Iguana park and is worth stopping in if you are already there. I am not sure it would be worth a separate trip to see just the church.  more »
  • We went in as were across the street at Iguana Park. The cathedral is a beautiful impressive place that one should go in if you are anywhere close to the area. Cheers !  more »
  • Built in 1700 and re designed in 1899 it's indeed a symbol of the relevance of the Christianity in Ecuador.  more »
