  • This market is conveniently located in el centro so while it may not be as grand as Feria Libre, it’s easier to get to. There were a variety of vendors, ladies selling all kinds of produce, meet, herb...  more »
  • Even without want to buy anything, a visit to this great 2 storey covered market is very interesting to learn a little about everyday life, traditions and customs of the native peoples through their medicinal herbs, gastronomy and crafts something. I don't recommend eating there because the hygienic conditions of food handling isn't great (just to experience a "llapingacho" (potato cake with cheese), got a terrible gastroenteritis!). The 3as. and Friday. FS. There are sessions of local healers in the afternoon, until the 17 hs unusual curiosity to be observed.

  • We've been looking for fresh fruit and vegetables and nearly died when we came here. Everything is delicious!!! Left with two big bags for $4.

  • Great place to buy food and stuff for your household. Everything you need you will get there. Best of it are the small restaurants and food stands at the second floor.
  • Fascinating look at Ecuador, how vegetables/fruits/meats (and other stuff like prepared food, simple household wares, etc) are sold. It's not slick. It's not beautiful in a "Wholefoods" but what you buy is just as tasty and a lot, lot cheaper. Individual (usually indigenous women) work individual stalls on the bottom floor with a huge variety of fruits and vegetables. The ladies will often give you a sample of a fruit, tell you what it's called, give you ripe (maduro) products if you want to eat them on the spot, say. 10 de agosto is also a great place to photograph - be nice and ask if you can take a pic - some will say no and others don't mind. A tip is always welcome. Second floor has prepared food - almuerzos, batidos (milkshakes), etc. Cheap, tasty and likely as sanitary as any other restaurant in Cuenca.
  • This is a must-visit location even if you only have a little time to spare. You can see some different foods that you may not be accustomed to.
  • Lots of lunch shops but not a huge variety (spit roasted pig, encebolladas - tuna soup, chicken soup, chicken in various forms). Fruit and vegetable section has a rat problem. As with most markets the best and freshest produce is usually sold by the ladies outside the market with wheelbarrows and only one or two types of fruit and veg.
  • Shop where the locals shop! 5 avocados for a dollar!
