Made from a specific type of palm frond that only grows on the coast of Ecuador, some Panama-type hats can take up to six months to make and can cost several hundred dollars. • People from the country side bring the hats they have made here, to be sorted and finished for sale. See the history of Panama hats and perhaps purchase one to wear.  more »
  • Very cute all the hats. I was mainly because I wanted to buy me a native Panama Hat. But also caught my attention that are advertised as a museum. I really only display of hats for sale, vi such Museum. I tried all of the hats that I wanted until I chose that I would carry. The price seemed normal for those who always have things with a brand. On the street many sombredos straw there paja very cheap but these were my favorites. There for all budgets. They should open their doors on Saturday also in the afternoon because only work from 9 am to 12. 30 am.

  • Impossible to go in Cuenca and not buy a Panama Hat Homero Ortega. Plant located near the airport and with a Museum and a shop where you can meet all the process of the making of the famous hats. Hard then is to choose the best, one more beautiful than the other. The low price of the models.

Where to stay in Cuenca

Extremely popular with international visitors and expats, Cuenca features the sizeable range of hotel options you might expect from a renowned tourist destination. Scores of hotels and bed and breakfasts line the streets of the city's old town, many of them occupying historic mansions and homes restored to their former glory. The larger, more upscale hotels in the city center tend to offer onsite restaurants and other amenities, while cheaper hostels feature little more than bunk beds in exchange for much lower rates. However, keep in mind that Cuenca's popularity has a flip side, as the large foreign presence makes for higher prices than elsewhere in Ecuador and also large fluctuations in cost depending on the season.
