Cotopaxi National Park, Cotopaxi Province

(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Explore the 33,393 hectares (82,516 acres) of Cotopaxi National Park, centered on an eponymous volcano and sheltering Andean wolves, llamas, deer, pumas, and a vast array of birds. Hike through the humid mountain forest at low elevations and the snowy reaches of the hills surrounding the volcano, which saw its last significant eruption in 1904. Periods of heightened seismic activity--such as in late 2015--can result in restricted access to the park, so be sure to check with local authorities before planning your trip. • If you like the adventure, this excursion is required. Once you reach the first refuge must get in touch with your guide ($40.00) and the driver of the truck ($20.00) which must be 4 X 4. You must have this contracted in advance because can that has many tourists and not get carts. It will be in the car to the parking lot to start the ascent to the 2nd refuge 4900. MTS. You can do it in form direct some 300 meters. but you must be in excellent condition, or on the contrary in zig zag which are as 1500 meters. but milder. You must go wrapped because it is cold, gloves, hat, etc. And clothing should be totally waterproof because it rains frequently and very windy. Our time fell a slight hail and 200 meters (from the way of the 1500 meters) missed us to reach 2nd refuge due to lack of suitable clothes for my daughters of 12 and 19 years old next time I better able to reach the goal.

  • Took a day trip to the Cotopaxi refuge and it was a wonderful experience. Beware that it is often clouded over get there early
  • With biking Dutchman - Ecuador mountain biking tours - Quito, I have undertaken a tour in the Cotopaxi National Park. Early in the morning we took National Park the SUV in the Cotopaxi to a short stop and sign at the entrance of the Park, we went then to 4200 m height. By this point, parking lot, tours start to the mountain hut, and on the night of the shelter on Cotopaxi. A very strong wind around the nose blew us at 4200m. Our Abfart with several stops lasted for nearly 4 hours make the photos and explanations of our mountain guide. My report is based on an experience in may 2013. But now much sports on my images

  • The views are insane. The volcano is beautiful. It's amazing how something so devastating can be so beautiful
  • Inpresive! Magical , amazing everything you can imagine in a same place. I loved it!
  • Even with the summit to Cotapaxi closed because of the recent volcanic activity, the National Park is breathtaking! The mirror lake, wild horses, deer, and unique flora make for a memorable visit. Cycling tours are available and the local guides are super knowledgeable and kind. Do walk with a photocopy of the ID page of your passport as this info is needed for National Park statistics. This is a must visit!
  • Beautiful landscapes. A great place to encounter nature! Love it!
  • This place has a great view. The trek is not that hard. We did cycling on our way down the mountain which was amazing
