Cotopaxi National Park, Cotopaxi Province
(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Explore the 33,393 hectares (82,516 acres) of Cotopaxi National Park, centered on an eponymous volcano and sheltering Andean wolves, llamas, deer, pumas, and a vast array of birds. Hike through the humid mountain forest at low elevations and the snowy reaches of the hills surrounding the volcano, which saw its last significant eruption in 1904. Periods of heightened seismic activity--such as in late 2015--can result in restricted access to the park, so be sure to check with local authorities before planning your trip. • Very much worth going, since when you get close, you start to see very nice landscapes. Once you arrive at the parking lot, you must walk about an hour by a rise by a road marking, is there when you start senyir the height and you get to climb slowly, you can see the refuge and reaches to see the top of the volcano, to the cua only you could try to get if you pay for a tour with specialized guide and are willing to walk from 10 pm to get to the top in the morning. In November 2016 access to the Summit was still closed so you could only get to the shelter. We did the tpur through the Time Travel Agency and they subcontrataon EcoSports tours, your office is close to Plaza Foch. You can contact Elsa Murillo who attended us very very well and is highly recommended. Your phone is 999738058

  • Hope you get a day without clouds, but if you can't, go anyway because the experience will be great in the same way. We went by bus to the highway and then follow with a truck we hired. In the lobby had to pay a Park Guide to accompany our tour. Explained that it is mandatory to the Guide for foreigners because of the eruption of the volcano and the need to follow in quick 15 minutes until the escape routes if there is sign of activity. On the site we visited a museum that explains a little about the consequences of the eruption of Cotopaxi and shows some mineral and fossil pictures. We did a trail for a short trip through the Woods from an ancient lava runner who opened a kind of Canyon. Then climb the Cotopaxi to the refuge. It was very cold and the climb is difficult, although short. You, 400 meters only, but the altitude, the cold and the soft sand of the difficult path and walking. There are other options, longer paths, but more peaceful. The refuge has a cafeteria that serves hot drinks. Finally we did new track of approximately 2.5 km around the laguna of Cotopaxi and what have dried her. A walk pretty well! observe birds, Cotopaxi and horses. You can descend by bike, but I thought the way bad. Super recommend meet,

  • The views are insane. The volcano is beautiful. It's amazing how something so devastating can be so beautiful
  • Inpresive! Magical , amazing everything you can imagine in a same place. I loved it!
  • Even with the summit to Cotapaxi closed because of the recent volcanic activity, the National Park is breathtaking! The mirror lake, wild horses, deer, and unique flora make for a memorable visit. Cycling tours are available and the local guides are super knowledgeable and kind. Do walk with a photocopy of the ID page of your passport as this info is needed for National Park statistics. This is a must visit!
  • Beautiful landscapes. A great place to encounter nature! Love it!
  • This place has a great view. The trek is not that hard. We did cycling on our way down the mountain which was amazing
