Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), Santo Domingo

4.3
Head to Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), a common meeting area for locals and home to some of the city’s most important buildings. Surrounded by cafes with outdoor patios, the square is a great place to grab a bite, a drink, or to watch local life go by. The large open square is home to Alcazar de Colon, the oldest Viceregal residents in America. Look for the house of Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus, which sits on the square. • Great place to go in the afternoon to take a glass of wine and dine watching the sunset, if you have children you can enjoy to see them play in the square while you enjoy the evening. Different options of restaurants and bars with outdoor tables. Unfortunately some casual singers "strive to" accompany you sometimes...

  • Wide, in a key role in the history of Santo Domingo and America. It is in front of the Alcazar of Colon and then the ladies Street. All the buildings to its around are very beautiful and interesting.

  • The only place to stay for me in the colonial zone. Very clean, very safe, perfect location to visit all the sites! Family run. Super friendly staff. Superb customer service!
  • Its a beautiful place to be specially at christmas because there is a beautiful christmas tree. There is also a restarount there which is also really good :-)
  • The plaza is old spanish colony style for their monks and army forces. It has some affordable bar with terrace both indoor and outdoor. When the night falls it has a lively ambience with life shows very often presenting local and international artists.
  • Nice plaza to visit with the family. Is a kid friendly space, but they need to work more on the lighting and cleanliness.
  • A must visit, a great assortment of restaurants and cuisines, with a truly amazing and unique view. Overlooking Columbus' castle and the Santo Domingo harbor.
