Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), Santo Domingo
(4.3/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Head to Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), a common meeting area for locals and home to some of the city’s most important buildings. Surrounded by cafes with outdoor patios, the square is a great place to grab a bite, a drink, or to watch local life go by. The large open square is home to Alcazar de Colon, the oldest Viceregal residents in America. Look for the house of Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus, which sits on the square. • The square occupies a very large space, interestingly there is nothing in between but rather in their corners, as the Columbus Palace on one side and several bars and restaurants (photogenic) of another. These, even though price higher than in the rest of the city, worth a stop for a drink.

  • The most important building of the same is the Alcazar de Colon.es a wide plaza that should maybe have more trees given the Sun of Santo Domingo (matter of taste). It has restaurants and cafes.

  • Gateway to the colonial city in the 15th century, this open plaza is better in the evening when you can enjoy great restaurants and bars , in the day time is good for visiting the old castle, and muse...  more »

  • Quite a nice square with some good (albeit quite expensive) places to eat on one side. It's also not far from many of Santo Domingo's main sites. But I did think it lacked something...it wasn't overly picturesque nor did it really have much of a centre point.
  • If you are a bohemian or love "small" history, then this place is fine. However, I am a person that likes peace and quiet, so this is not the place for me. Trying to park, or even drive, around this area is a real nightmare.
  • Love the environment of La Plaza de España! Polite and very vivid people fill the beautiful streets of stone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to explore the culture of the Dominican Republic.
  • The hearth of Zona Colonial, there you can find the Columbus Palace ans some good restaurants.
  • Excelente lugar para distraerse y botar el estrés. Vigilado e iluminado.
