Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), Santo Domingo

(4.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Head to Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), a common meeting area for locals and home to some of the city’s most important buildings. Surrounded by cafes with outdoor patios, the square is a great place to grab a bite, a drink, or to watch local life go by. The large open square is home to Alcazar de Colon, the oldest Viceregal residents in America. Look for the house of Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus, which sits on the square. • After all morning doing a tour of the Colonial City, there is nothing better than a nice lunch on the terrace of one of the restaurants that include "The House of Columbus". A mi me gusta, Ritas coffee! Good raw material, food from different cultures, and a good wine cellar.

  • Quite a nice square with some good (albeit quite expensive) places to eat on one side. It's also not far from many of Santo Domingo's main sites. But I did think it lacked something...it wasn't overly picturesque nor did it really have much of a centre point.
  • If you are a bohemian or love "small" history, then this place is fine. However, I am a person that likes peace and quiet, so this is not the place for me. Trying to park, or even drive, around this area is a real nightmare.
  • Love the environment of La Plaza de España! Polite and very vivid people fill the beautiful streets of stone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to explore the culture of the Dominican Republic.
  • The hearth of Zona Colonial, there you can find the Columbus Palace ans some good restaurants.
  • Excelente lugar para distraerse y botar el estrés. Vigilado e iluminado.
