Landmark Tourist Spot
Head to Plaza de Espana (Plaza de Armas), a common meeting area for locals and home to some of the city’s most important buildings. Surrounded by cafes with outdoor patios, the square is a great place to grab a bite, a drink, or to watch local life go by. The large open square is home to Alcazar de Colon, the oldest Viceregal residents in America. Look for the house of Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus, which sits on the square. • Iconic. If you visit Santo Domingo this is a must. A lot of history all over the place. Lot's of music and good food surrounding it. Parking is an issue.
  • A beautiful and historic area rich in history and culture. Certain nights have live music and events, and the area becomes very lively and fun with both tourists and locals. Check out one of the restaurants there if you can and try to catch a meal during sunset in the evening hours.
  • The perfect old view, a historical place, nerve seen in city, definitely you can not visit DR without visit Colonial Zone
  • This is a "must visit" spot for any tourist visiting Santo Domingo. It is filled with historical structures, and you can see how one of the oldest Spanish colonies in the western hemisphere was laid out, and how it felt. In the immediate area, you will find many little restaurants, little shops you can find decent gifts at, and many other historical sites. It gets really crowded on weekends, as the locals like to go to have a good time in that area.
  • Still a nice and pleasant place to spend time chatting, sitting or walking around. Casual and romantic.
