Museum of the Royal Houses, Santo Domingo

Marvel at classic colonial architecture from the 1500s at Museum of the Royal Houses, which once housed the administrative offices of the Spanish colonies, but now stands as a museum documenting the history of Santo Domingo. Request a personal guide and explore the labyrinth of rooms decorated with colonial furniture. The museum exhibits early legislation, the office of the chief judge, historical ceramics, military weapons, and all types of Taino artifacts. Take a quiet break in the interior courtyard, which features an elegant garden. • The Museum of the Royal houses is almost at the end Dela ladies Street is the Museum that most enjoy in Santo Domingo. In it you can do a tour guided audio which is very interesting and need to do in order to understand each one of the elements that compose it. We can find the first book printed in America, elements of torture of slaves, the first maps of the Dominicans, armor, horse carriages. Different elements could also be seen as the activity of the sugar harvest, ancient elements of navigation, was carried forward replica in miniature of the ships with which Columbus crossed the Atlantic on its maiden voyage, etc. And one of the most impressive things of the Museum is a private collection of weapons and armor from different periods of history which belonged to the dictator Trujillo and was defeated after EU were transferred to this Museum, including a uniform of Pancho Villa to the It obtained a Mexican general.

  • It is a fabulous place, especially in rooms where to recreate the old functions of the building. It deserves a visit of an hour.

  • It surprised me positively. Very organized. It has, like other Santo Domingo museums, a few digital audio devices suitable to avoid the "guides" that want you to charge for any speech and travel to the race. Has a pavilion of weapons really impressive.
