Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion, Santiago de los Caballeros

Standing at the heart of the city, Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion serves as a giant, eight-story monument dedicated to honor the Dominican soldiers that fought in the final war of independence against Spain. • None of the travel guides said much about Santiago and there are few hotels in the center. We overnighted here simply as a convenience on our way to Haiti. So glad we did. This monument is truly impre...  more »

  • The monument is architecturally interesting and surrounded by a nice green area. It offers magnificent views of Santiago. If you go during daytime hours, there is a library open to the public and a well-done museum of the War of the Restoration. Worth a visit for anyone doing sight-seeing or interested in Dominican history.
  • A must-visit tourist attraction site if you find yourself in the area. This was my first stop in Santiago De Los Caballeros in March and May 2013. - Secured historical public place. Police and military on duty. - Great view, clean and beautiful. - Lively public park/plaza surrounded by bar 🍻, restaurants, lounges, casinos 🃏🏰, street vendors and horse carriages. - Parking is scarce. Highly recommend this city sightseeing tourist attraction to anyone visiting Santiago.
  • Delightful night out with family members. I recommend you visit with local folks. It is a security measure.
  • Extraordinary view of Santiago and suroundings from the top of the"tower". Visitors can access and enyoy the lower exibitions 24/7. There is a small fee (under US $2.00) to get to the top of the monument, using the inside stairs, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. It closes earlier on Sundays. There are exibitions on paints, murals, manual arts from Dominican artists on display in each of the about 12 floors to the top.
  • Historic place. Great view of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic. Here you might find public events. Like in february is Carnaval time. Music, vendors and nice people fill the place
