Standing at the heart of the city, Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion serves as a giant, eight-story monument dedicated to honor the Dominican soldiers that fought in the final war of independence against Spain. The towering monument features a square base supported by large white columns with a central tower stretching 67 m (219.8 ft) into the sky. • Super cute and clean. Good place to ride a bike outdoors. On July 25 the entry is free because it is the anniversary, other days charge:), carry coins to the viewpoint.

  • A must-visit tourist attraction site if you find yourself in the area. This was my first stop in Santiago De Los Caballeros in March and May 2013. - Secured historical public place. Police and military on duty. - Great view, clean and beautiful. - Lively public park/plaza surrounded by bar 🍻, restaurants, lounges, casinos 🃏🏰, street vendors and horse carriages. - Parking is scarce. Highly recommend this city sightseeing tourist attraction to anyone visiting Santiago.
  • If you are in Santiago this is a MUST! A free view of the Santiago City and get the fresh air. If you want to go up into the Monument you'd better were long pants or jeans. Shorts/skirts are not allowed. I used to live here for years and never knew this rule. During thr holidays this place is the Capital of Lights! You have to come and see it yourself. Also is good if you want to exercise during vacations. Get the Horse ride around the area and You'll have the best time! Is something new and fun! Perfect place for all ages! Yo amo mi Ciudad Corazon ♡
  • If you're visiting Santiago, you can't leave without visiting El Monumento! You'll enjoy the view even from the stairs and the fresh breeze. If you decide to go inside the Monument, you'll learn about our history, carnival and culture. There's a breathtaking view from the balcony of the Monument that you shouldn't miss. Place it's pretty safe now and there's security even at night.
  • Lets begin with the Monument . The Monument is in Parts open for Public you can go up till the Crown but it is only for People with good Conditions.Going up the Steps you can see in different Windows Parts of the Dominican History . At the End you will be pleased with a look around Santiago from the Base under the Monument Top . Around the monument the People from Santiago go to have a Night out with their Family sitting open air , some bring Music with and have a Drink . It is some you have to do if in Santiago . One Site of the Monument has the look to the Autopista Duarte the Highway to Santo Domingo . and the Theatre of Cibao and his gardens . standing look at it left hand site you are able to see the hotel Matum the oldest Hotel in the City this Hotel is also a Historic place .... but we talk now about the monument the Avenida las Carreras left hand site is the Main Street to get into Santiago crossing the City Center . on your right hand site are some Restaurants and bars as o at the Front site . Nightlife pulse here . The Monument is also the Area for big Events and The Carnival Parade starts here . So in February is a must to go for People who want enjoy Street carnival . Some Street sellers sell Junk Food and one of the Attraction are the ride with an horse-drawn carriage, it is Fun . Take care of your Wallets and do not go late Night because this Place is known for robbery . So if there is crowd no Problem but late Night with very view People do not walk around there.
  • A nice place to go and it is also having a museum inside going up the steps to the highest Point you need good conditions . there are on every level historic windows showing parts of the history . once at the platform you can look at the highway Duarte with leads to Santo Domingo and the Gran Theatro de Cibao with his Gardens . Place for many Culture actions also sometime a fair. looking at the Grand Theatre you also see the lights of the oldest Town Hotel of Santiago where also History has been written . on two Streets around the monument you have Restaurants and Bars . Nightlive pulse here. people from Santiago climb up at night to the monument to sit there and have some drinks they carry and enjoy the view. Some do a Ride with a horse drawn carriage you can rent also for other occasions . I February the monument area is where the big carnival parades start . At late Nighttime you need to be carefull when the place goes empty and only a view of People arround there it is Time if the Thiefs . Roberies are nothing strange here. So to be sure move with many People or if you come out of one of the bars or night clubs late go only by taxi.

Where to stay in Santiago de los Caballeros

For a relatively large city by Caribbean standards, Santiago de los Caballeros is surprisingly light on accommodations. Your best bet is to look along Avenida Las Carreras, where you can choose from a mid-range hotel and a few bed and breakfasts. You can also find a few business-oriented hotels north of the center, in Residencial Claribel.
