Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion
Standing at the heart of the city, Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion serves as a giant, eight-story monument dedicated to honor the Dominican soldiers that fought in the final war of independence against Spain. The towering monument features a square base supported by large white columns with a central tower stretching 67 m (219.8 ft) into the sky. Walk in and observe a display of Dominican history, then climb to the top floor to see far-reaching views of the city. This monument is easily my favorite landmark in the whole country. It stands like a true monument, very distinguishable presence with nothing else around it to obstruct the view of it. No matter... more »

Many memories as a child here, best restaurants and very lively atmosphere! Super scenic great pics, day time is fun but at night it lights up! Great food and music all around! Must see more »

Certainly worth seeing in daylight and at night. I arrived just before 4 PM so could not go to the upper level. But view is great as well as the bronze statues of the heroes (one woman). This is a lively area at night with multiple bars below the monument. I was there on Independence Day so the Dominicans were in a partying mood. Heard some great live music.

Good view of the city and got to experience the fun at night that is more lively with music food and people and during the day its calm less people but got to see more of this beautiful culture and its scholars. Meet great people on the way as well as hustlers who strive to make a living. Overall very nice. Will come back to go inside the monument and share more pictures.

An amazing historic place that at the same time is great to chill and relax with friends. At times there will be people tho who are selling beer, that can be a good thing if you like to enjoy your view with one, if not simply say no. At night it's illuminated and imposing. During the day the view is amazing, I recommend you to go up and see the view. Special note, it's good to bring a jacket during fresh nights if you get cold easily!

This is the landmark of Santiago. No visit to the city would be complete without a stop here. You can go about halfway up, where incredible views await. Unfortunately you cannot go all the way to the top. Even if you do not plan to go up the tower, the monument is a nice gathering spot for locals.
-
Great walk with several great restaurants around the plaza. Excellent view of the city. NOTE: there is a fee to go up the monument except on the last Sunday of each month.
