Samana Bay, Samana Province

(3.7/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Samana Bay represents a prime breeding spot for humpback whales, and many visitors come with the hope of seeing the giant marine creatures. Observe the whales from the shore or take a boat onto the bay to observe from a safe but closer distance. The town along the shore offers shopping for local products, and the area also serves as a nesting site for pelicans and frigate birds, which are sometimes spotted amongst the mangrove trees that line nearby rivers. In town you'll find several markets, but be prepared to be approached by locals looking for a sale.
