Samana Bay, Samana Province

3.7
#3 of 7 in Nature in Samana Province
Samana Bay represents a prime breeding spot for humpback whales, and many visitors come with the hope of seeing the giant marine creatures. Observe the whales from the shore or take a boat onto the bay to observe from a safe but closer distance. The town along the shore offers shopping for local products, and the area also serves as a nesting site for pelicans and frigate birds, which are sometimes spotted amongst the mangrove trees that line nearby rivers. In town you'll find several markets, but be prepared to be approached by locals looking for a sale. Start your trip to Las Galeras by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • No doubt know Samana is one of the things that can not be, simply is impressive, with its watchtowers, the famous cayo cayo Bay raised etc, eat at one of the small restaurants that we found next to the pier, and the visit to the famous waterfall of the lemon for this and much more is a must visit if you are traveling to the Dominican Republic. Best regards.

  • The trip is long. The Hotel Gran Bahia Principe went to Savannah from the sea bus (it takes more than one hour) there take catamaran during 40 min aprox. where to get water and ron free to Samana. There we take a truck up to the top of the peninsula, making a stop in a typical Dominican House where teach you the cocoa, coffee... Finally, we come to a ranch where you ride a horse with a guide during the whole journey. They offer waterproof boots and socks, so if get your socks that you save because they are paid; free boots. You go to horse to jump the lemon and there you can swim though the horse is left up and have to go down a few steps. It is worth. The guides at all time super tuned with all our belongings but a superimportant thing. At the end they ask for tip because they say that they do this on a voluntary basis, without charging anything and is totally false. The owner of the ranch that paid (I saw it with my own eyes, it does so in one corner of the hut where you eat. Turn you get to the ranch to eat in a cabin. Offer white rice, beans, chicken salad pasta,... the food better than the Saona. Once the food you ride you back into the truck and the port to take the catamaran and go to Bacardi island. There you are little more than one hour, the water is transparent. New catamaran to Savannah from the sea and bus to the hotel. Long but highly recommended excursion.
