Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island), Samana Province
Categories: Islands, Nature & Parks
Take a boat ride from Samana to Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island), an idyllic destination which boasts the only public beach in the bay area. The island features the private hotel section and the public beach accessible to all tourists. Enjoy lounging on the pristine white sand, swim and snorkel, or indulge in some refreshing drinks at the bar. The beach can get crowded when the cruise ships come in, so if you're looking for a tranquil stay, try visiting later in the day. The island is somewhat of a highlight because of the famous advertising shoot, was nothing special unfortunately. After lunch, we were a few hours on the beach, which is completely crowded by tourists. Yes it is crowd nicely, but this one could not really enjoy it. Half of the island is not open to visitors, as a hotel was built there. The famous Raffaelo beach is sometimes also only for the hotel guests. The visit is not necessarily a must so my opinion. If you're already there, you must try some cocktails (about $2). Coco Loco or Pina Coladas are prepared directly in a coconut or pineapple. That was our highlight ;)show original
