Historic Site
When in Puerto Plata, pay a short visit to Fortaleza San Felipe, a historic Spanish fortress and the only remnant of the 16th century city. Situated on a hill overlooking the Atlantic, the fort was used to protect the city from pirate attacks. Commissioned by King Felipe IV of Spain, the fortress was erected in 1577, witnessed a couple of battles, and was occasionally used as a prison. Today you can visit the fort, which was converted into a museum in 1965. See the military artifacts inside and enjoy the scenic bay views. • This is a good stopping point to take pictures and have a breath of fresh air. There are vendors who are slightly pushing but do take no for an answer.  more »

  • Great place to visit specially if you are into exploring other cultures and learning more about the beginning of the new world. Learn more about Christopher Columbus and the beautiful city of Puerto Plata, RD.
  • Nothing much to see there. Not worth a detours in my personal opinion. They had audio guides but it kept losing audio signal.
