Specialty Museum Museum
Admire an array of fossils at Amber Museum. Opened in 1982, the museum was established by the Costa family and American paleontologist Brandt Ghepart. Situated in a Victorian style colonial era mansion, it houses more than a thousand pieces of Dominican amber. Take a tour of the interior to see the extensive collection of the semi-precious material, some containing insect, plant, or lizard fossils. After the tour, you can pay a visit to the gift shop, where you can purchase souvenirs and pieces of amber. • Went on a trip to the Amber museum whilst in the Dominican on honeymoon. Was a nice day out, and stopped off for food. Trip reasonably priced and worth the cost.  more »
  • Worth visiting. Very small but informative. Enjoyable short stroll through properly lit rooms. Provides background on amber formation.  more »
  • The museum itself is very small, yet quite interesting. Sadly you are rushed through to get to the gift shop in hopes you spend more $$$. We were not impressed with this.  more »

  • Very nice history behind the amber. I think they over exaggerate the ambers.
  • It was a nice, quick stop on the City Tour.
  • Such a cool look into the natural history of this island!
  • Interesting but small. Blue amber is cool tho!
  • Not expansive, Interesting, but not that much to see. They have more for sell, it's just a jewelry shop.
