Amber Museum, Puerto Plata
(2.7/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Admire an array of fossils at Amber Museum. Opened in 1982, the museum was established by the Costa family and American paleontologist Brandt Ghepart. Situated in a Victorian style colonial era mansion, it houses more than a thousand pieces of Dominican amber. Take a tour of the interior to see the extensive collection of the semi-precious material, some containing insect, plant, or lizard fossils. After the tour, you can pay a visit to the gift shop, where you can purchase souvenirs and pieces of amber. • Very interesting place to visit. Enjoyed looking at all the amber displays. Will probably visit there again some day.
  • For a Jurassic Park fan this is cool. Of course they are trying to sell you something at the end but still worth it!
  • It was interesting to learn how that the amber was a tree sap, that trapped plants, insects and in some cases, small animals. The tour took 15 minutes and then you are led into a shop to buy articles.
