Amber Museum, Puerto Plata

2.8
#1 of 8 in Museums in Puerto Plata Province
Admire an array of fossils at Amber Museum. Opened in 1982, the museum was established by the Costa family and American paleontologist Brandt Ghepart. Situated in a Victorian style colonial era mansion, it houses more than a thousand pieces of Dominican amber. Take a tour of the interior to see the extensive collection of the semi-precious material, some containing insect, plant, or lizard fossils. After the tour, you can pay a visit to the gift shop, where you can purchase souvenirs and pieces of amber. • Interesting to see the Amber, but it's a short visit. Don't buy souvenirs from the shop. They are overpriced.
  • Well worth a visit, very interesting and doesn't take too long. You may need to haggle better than we did, if you want to buy some trinkets.
  • Very nice history behind the amber. I think they over exaggerate the ambers.
  • It was a nice, quick stop on the City Tour.
  • Such a cool look into the natural history of this island!
