Altos de Chavon, La Romana

4.4
Visit a rustic Mediterranean village in the heart of the Dominican Republic at Altos de Chavon. Built in the late 1970s, the replica of a 16th century European-style village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro and Italian artist Roberto Coppa. Roam the charming cobblestone streets and quaint courtyards, admiring the shops, galleries, and restaurants that look as if they’ve been there for centuries. Don't miss the amphitheater, a venue that has hosted many famous performers. You can relax in a cafe and enjoy the picturesque vista, purchase authentic art pieces, or pay a visit to the archaeology museum. • For sure it will be a beautiful place but access is blocked, for a fee and it is forbidden to take photographs with "decent" cameras. Maybe they protect the VIPs who live inside it from the paparazzi but so they kill tourism and limit it a lot. It would be said "But who do you think you are?"

  • The excursion to the village of La Romana is very interesting to know why it is a replica of one of an amphitheater like those in Rome with beautiful buildings that pretend to be from that time in which there is a church where Michael Jackson marries Lisa Presley. It's all very nice.

  • This is truly a must! If you are lucky to come to Dominican Republic this has to be one of the places to come. If you are planning a wedding, the sightseeing is breathtaking. It’s a magical place. Ladies do not, I repeat, do not wear high heels since it’s a historical place and streets are made of stones. Wear flats, wedges, sneakers, flip flops, but not high heels. There’s are lots of restaurant around which are very good. Bring cameras because you will fall in love with every corner.
