Altos de Chavon, La Romana

(4.4/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Visit a rustic Mediterranean village in the heart of the Dominican Republic at Altos de Chavon. Built in the late 1970s, the replica of a 16th century European-style village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro and Italian artist Roberto Coppa. Roam the charming cobblestone streets and quaint courtyards, admiring the shops, galleries, and restaurants that look as if they’ve been there for centuries. Don't miss the amphitheater, a venue that has hosted many famous performers. You can relax in a cafe and enjoy the picturesque vista, purchase authentic art pieces, or pay a visit to the archaeology museum. • The city is built in the same style, it's impressive, as if you find yourself in a great scenery for the film! After the white beaches and azure sea delights changing pictures-mountains and Greens! Beauty!

  • What a pity having to pay 25 dollars each for access to Altos de Chavon! A decade ago was entered for free, you ate something, you shopped ... Oh well, I do not make a drama ... who doesn't want doesn't deserve!

  • Somewhere beautiful and magical, full of places to drink, eat, or both! The only site that I do not recommend to eat is a rest called "La Cantina" food is terrible we ask several things and everything was super greasy, all knew to old oil really very bad. So if you can avoid it. Moreover, altos de chavón is a place that if they go to Casa De Campo should know!

  • My wife and I have been here twice during cruises. This is an awesome place to visit. The staff are very welcoming, the area clean, and the site is very photogenic. A must see.
  • We came here by chance and discovered some kind of "historical disneyland". It was built in 1979 on the model of an old Italian village and it is honestly very cute! Don't miss a short walk there
  • We come to the Dominican Republic and went to meet Ups to Chavon. Imitation of a Mediterranean Village is made in 7 years by different artists, architects, etc. A total of 500. In the Amphitheater already performed the leading artists (Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, etc). Was opened by Frank Sinatra. The river Chavon and surrounding areas have been made movies, or part of them, like Apocalypse Now, Anaconda and other. Has sources, a church, an Archaeological Museum, schools of art and design, the Museum of Amber, shops, bars and restaurants. The view from up there, Chavon River, is very beautiful.

  • A place where time is caught in the colonial era. From a mountainous height where you can see waves of horizons. It is very peaceful and private linking. Very good to visit in groups and families.
