Titou Gorge, Dominica

(4.7/5 based on 180 reviews on the web)
Swim between two monumental rock faces, underneath a tumbling waterfall, and into an airy, sparkling cave at Titou Gorge. Formed as molten lava cooled then split apart, the series of naturally formed stone rooms lead you to an opening of hot mineral springs, a welcoming change from the refreshing but chilly water of the fall. The crystal clear waters can be quite deep, but less confident swimmers can hire a life jacket. Consider wearing swim shoes to protect against sharp rocks as you enter the pools. • This Location requires a bit of endurance, but beautiful. The opportunity to swim through a gorge to a hidden waterfall. A must see.
  • This great Gorge was the filming location of Pirates of the Caribbean. You can only swim in. In any case, take the offered life jackets. The Canyon is up to 7 metres deep and very closely, which you rather have to paddle some places as swim. The water is quite cold, but the Gorge is very worthwhile. At the end of the Gorge is a waterfall which feeds the Canyon with water. Local guides will help you here you go even closer to the waterfall. Who to trust can jump from the rocks, will cost some overcome, is but huge fun :-)

  • Great challenge to brave the swim through the narrow gorge against the current..be careful people have lost their lives swimming in that location..
  • River Gorge and Falls were as expected. I didn't find the water that cold, swimming against the current was a challenge. View of falls was limited due to swimmers ability to swim the narrow gorge's current. Overall, one of Dominca's better tourist destinations.
  • So cold but so good!
  • Was great!
  • A warm stream joins the cold flow of a river in a pool at the exit of a narrow gorge with sheer sides of black rock. Swim upstream about 60 metres through the gorge to reach a small but powerful waterfall where you can dive in to a deep pool, with the sunlight filtered through rainforest 10 metres above. If makes a beautiful and refreshing way to end the walk from the boiling lake, or a respite from the afternoon heat if you're in the area.
