Contemplate the wondrous power of nature at Valley of Desolation, a valley of hot springs, steam vents, and fumeroles. Observe vapors rising from the ground and smell sulphur in the air in the spectacular setting. You can expect to be out for about 6 hours on the long hike, assuming you take it at an easy pace. Guides are available, but not essential, as the trail is easy to follow. Make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and beware of the uncertified guides at the start of the trail. For an easy and entertaining meal, consider bringing along some eggs to boil in the springs.
