Fort Shirley, Dominica

(4.1/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
One of Dominica's most important historical sites, Fort Shirley invites you to step back in time and relive the island's turbulent history. Erected during the French and Indian War, the fort has endured its fair share of turmoil, and has changed owners many times. Walk around the grounds to find old rusted cannons, restored cannons looking over the bay, restored walls, and an old tap. Follow up with a visit to one of the many trails located just behind the fort. Find old ruins including the house of one of the old commanders of the fort. • It is a wonderful place if your there for a wedding reception as I was. Wonderful to be with others so if you plan on going there don't go alone.
  • An interesting piece of history on Dominica. Not the highlight of my trip but if you enjoy old buildings and cannons more than the beach and water then this would be a good stop. Otherwise, it would probably be OK to skip this attraction.
  • This is the birth place of descendants. It does help it is also a wonderful place to visit.
