Skamlingsbanken is a large hill located in Vejstrup Parish, Jutland, Denmark, between Kolding and Christiansfeld. With a peak rising to above sea level, it is the highest point in Southern Jutland. The bank of the hill is 2to long and was created during the ice age with clay pushed up the Little Belt Strait from a nearby glacier. Several major historic public meetings took place here during and after the disputes over the territory of Schleswig-Holstein. When peace returned, there was an exchange of territories between the kingdom and the Duchy of Southern Jutland. As a result, eight non-Jutland parishes in the northern part of Tyrstrup Herred, including Vejstrup Parish, were transferred to the kingdom and Skamlingsbanken thereafter fell within the borders of Denmark.GeologySkamlingsbanken is a lateral moraine formed at the beginning of the Wisconsin glaciation period, approximately 22,000 - 25,000 years ago, although other glaciers came through later from the east and south, forming Skamlingsbanken and the large hills and rugged terrain south of Kolding. From Højskamling the landscape falls steeply eastwards and ends up in a cove at Mosvig. To the west, the landscape drops to a level height of around above sea level and continues all the way to the Jutland ridgeway.Use our Kolding journey site to visit Skamlingsbanken on your trip to Kolding, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

Skamlingsbanken er et vigtigt mindesmærke med udsigt til både landskab, historie og sproghistorie. Det er mest, fordi mindesmærkerne netop er mindesmærker, at stedet har sin betydning. At man kan se l... more »Skamlingsbanken is an important Memorial with views to both the landscape, history and language history. It's mostly because the monuments are memorials, just that the place has its importance. That one can see far, is an added advantage (especially if the weather had been better). The Memorial to the fallen is well worth a visit. There are some who have fought for what we have today! In addition, there is very hilly, so you get a little exercise!
Wer in der Nähe ist, kommt nicht herum hier rauf zu fahren. Der Blick ist wirklich toll und wenn man weiß, dass sich hier dereinst über 100.000 Dänen versammelt haben, ist das schon beeindruckend. His... more »Who is nearby, is not around here to go. The look is really great and if you know that here at one time more than 100,000 Danes have gathered, this is impressive. Historically significant and visually beautiful created. I would want to drive an extra detour for it.
Det var især udsigten og Dannebrogs smukke bevægelser, der var bjergtagende. Udstillingslokalet var ret kedeligt, så historiens vingesus kom mere fra skoletidens lærdom end udstillingens (manglende) k... more »It was especially the prospect and Danish beautiful movements, which was breathtaking. The showroom was pretty boring, so history came more from the school of the future learning than the exhibition's (lack of) creativity. But you come almost spontaneously to croon "in Denmark I was born" when moving around in the hilly landscape.
Had some pleasant hours in the nice area and had gone a fine ride in the hilly terrain. May be recommended for people who are good walkers.
Really good food for quite reasonable money. Great location and beautiful rooms.
