#1 of 10 in Things to do in Hoersholm Municipality
At The Karen Blixen Museum, see the room where the author of the novel "Out of Africa," lived most of her life. The family estate that belonged to her father is preserved as a bird sanctuary in keeping with the writer's wishes. Find out more about the artist from a documentary exhibit on her life and work, which features original scripts, drawings, and paintings as well as biographies and letters. The museum also houses a library, a film screening room, a cafe, a shop, and an auditorium used for lectures and special exhibitions. You'll find the writer's burial plot under a huge old beech tree in the garden. Make The Karen Blixen Museum part of your personalized Rungsted itinerary using our Rungsted trip itinerary tool .

  • For someone like me who has seen the movie "out of Africa", the idea of visiting the home of the writer of the book has always been in the air. I must say that these memories scattered and buried in your backyard have something wistful and at the same time to a world far from ours. They also give the idea of a woman who did not bend from his fate but rather lived its life until the end, giving us his story.

  • The Museum has many explanatory texts and a short film about Karen Blixen. But it seems the price of 100 USD is very expensive compared to the Museum's size. Flower boxes were incredibly nice and helped to give a cosy and romantic atmosphere.

  • If you have guests from abroad, it is an experience. You can also combine with a lunch down at the docks

  • She had a much more varied history than we realised. Great bike ride up. Beautiful harbour out front. Nice and peaceful museum house and gardens.
  • I like the museum. I had been to the museum in Kenya and wanted to learn more. Such a peaceful place in a very unique individual's life
  • Small but perfectly formed and informative museum about the author of Out Of Africa. Also pretty garden and a cafe. Just across road from Nice marina with 8 or so restaurants. Parking at either.
  • If you're an "Out of Africa" fan and/or like doing things that may not be on a typical tourist's agenda, you should visit this museum while in Denmark. It's well worth the travel time from Copenhagen (30 minute commuter train ride followed by a 15 minute walk from the station to the museum). I loved the beautiful "Danish Riviera" views, rich history, and amazingly well-preserved décor, paintings, and artifacts. Its little gift shop is surprisingly fabulous, too.
  • This is very beautiful and facinating museum.
