Karen Blixen Museum, Rungsted

4.4
#1 of 8 in Things to do in Hoersholm Municipality
At Karen Blixen Museum, see the room where the author of the novel "Out of Africa," lived most of her life. The family estate that belonged to her father is preserved as a bird sanctuary in keeping with the writer's wishes. Find out more about the artist from a documentary exhibit on her life and work, which features original scripts, drawings, and paintings as well as biographies and letters. The museum also houses a library, a film screening room, a cafe, a shop, and an auditorium used for lectures and special exhibitions. You'll find the writer's burial plot under a huge old beech tree in the garden. Make Karen Blixen Museum part of your personalized Rungsted itinerary using our Rungsted trip itinerary tool .

  • that has had a major role in her writing, fun and see the graves, and read about her life. Afterwards, you can enjoy the garden in Café'en and perhaps buy a little cake

  • and even as fans already know all of this woman to the admittedly extraordinary fate. They see here where she lived the last part of his life. To visit 5 rooms on the ground floor of a House is not enough to be really excited about this visit. We discovered while she had a talent for drawing and for those who don't know that through her books, they will find a small movie. You can also visit before leaving the t the adjacent Park bird sanctuary where it is based.

  • Nice Museum, a guided tour through the private rooms in small groups is interesting and informative. The House and the garden are beautiful, nicely designed small shop and the cafe.

  • If you're an "Out of Africa" fan and/or like doing things that may not be on a typical tourist's agenda, you should visit this museum while in Denmark. It's well worth the travel time from Copenhagen (30 minute commuter train ride followed by a 15 minute walk from the station to the museum). I loved the beautiful "Danish Riviera" views, rich history, and amazingly well-preserved décor, paintings, and artifacts. Its little gift shop is surprisingly fabulous, too.
  • Beautiful house and so sad life with endless energy! Strongly recommended for everyone
  • You get a pretty full picture of Karen Blixen's life and work after a visit to this museum. You walk around in the house where she lived and there are plenty of photographs on display depicting the different periods in her life in Denmark and Kenya. Some areas of the museum look a bit makeshift, but generally this is an interesting museum and a wonderful place to visit.
  • A well presented depiction of Karen Blixen's life at her family home, now a musuem and bird sanctuary.
  • Cosy café with delicious brunch. Then a tour of Karen Blixen's home and garden. Beautifully and can anbefales😊
