#1 of 22 in Museums in Odense
Learn about the poet's life from his childhood years as the son of a struggling shoemaker, to his prolific career as an author at In the Footstep of Hans Christian Andersen. The museum opened in 1908 in the small yellow house, which is considered his birthplace. A reconstruction of the artist's study displays personal items, including his walnut writing desk and his writing set--glass ink containers on a brass-ornamented wooden tray. Take the time to hear his tales, such as "Little Mermaid" or "The Princess on the Pea," at one of the many listening posts. The poet's creative range is also evident through his drawings and collages. Buy a book by H.C. Andersen, available in several languages at the museum shop. • The Museum allows a broad view on life, which has not always been easy and happy, the author, who on many famous characters he created, the little match girl until the lead soldier. The paper figurines who loved to draw, are also exhibited in the Museum along with the various versions of his books translated in five continents, the photos of him and his letters. Admission to the Museum is preceded by a small park with a pond and a small theatre where, during the summer season, the most beautiful and famous interprets his fables. There is a wonderful stage on which comes to life the great show "21 Fairytales in 21 Minutes" with Torben Iversen as Hans Christian Andersen and its parade. The show is free and takes place 3 times a day, from 25/06 to 06/08 every day except Sundays the hours are as follows: at 11.00, 13.00 and 15.00 o'clock. The same company offers the Fairy Tales on the River the cruise speed of 14.

  • We stopped in Odense and the footsteps imprinted on the road gets quite a city tour visiting places dear to the writer. Our daughters (teenagers) are going to visit the museum dedicated to the writer and have been very disappointed by the content.
