Knuthenborg Safaripark, Maribo

4.5
#1 of 24 in Outdoors in South Zealand
Knuthenborg Safaripark serves as home to nearly 1,000 animals of 40 different species including antelopes, camels, giraffes, rhinoceroses, zebras, and the endangered species of Arctic wolf. The history of the park dates back to 1870, when owner Count Eggert C. Knuthlaid created a park for his collection of rare botanical plants. One of his descendants started to fill the park with free-roaming exotic creatures in 1969. Today the park houses an arboretum, an aviary, a tiger enclosure, attractive picnic areas, and a nature and a water playground for children. Most of the park is bicycle-friendly, except the savannah, which is accessible only by car or safari bus. In some areas visitors can touch the animals. Buy some traditional African crafts or locally produced foods at the souvenir shop. Make Knuthenborg Safaripark a part of your Maribo vacation plans using our Maribo travel planner .

  • Knuthenborg safari park is almost a must if you are on the edges. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and it meant a lot. The Park is very large and you have to run a lot. But most importantly, we sense that the animals have it good. Tigerene as the Park is known for is huge. When you see such a cat close and only with a glass window or a car door between you, one can therefore be smånervøs.

  • During our Denmark vacation, we have visited the Park. Our son is 5 years old was excited when we told him have that going up close to animals in the enclosure. Even to Tigers and wolves :D It was our all 1st time in a safari park in your own car. We were all very curious and excited! You drive through a large, old, beautiful entrance gate. And thanks to the brochure and the good signs all explained very clearly is actually. There are the areas where you may even get out, sometimes you can caress them to the animals, sometimes get off but at a safe distance, in other areas remain with window down... in others (Tigers and wolves) only with the window is closed by a lock (I kinda was like in Jurassic Park ;) In these two Ghegen there were only small sections which you could travel on and there was a trail... the animals can Dodge all right if they don't feel like! You can see then, although perhaps no animal but in the sense of the animals, it's very well resolved! It felt safe and had the chance to see zebras, giraffes, Buffalo, and much more! That was great. When we were through, we wanted to go out for dinner. That's great, you can in the associated restaurant. The portions are gigantic and it tastes super good. He does not tyoische fast food taste. And the prices are absolutely ok. There is a large souvenir shop at the entrance also moderate prices. What really blew us was the Splieplatz (rather play park it there again to enjoy gave! Omann man... huge with great climbing frames, great and imaginative much water and sand pit with Dino skeletons created, to the dig... and in the rear part there was an incredibly nice water playground! Our son the wading is freaked out :D Good that it was again really warm day in August and we change clothes it had! Loads a large volcano from foam rubber to the Board a... with built-in trampolines! AND... There is a small log Flume and a small roller coaster! In between again small food stalls that had honest to us however, we came relatively late. Had we known what's here for great opportunities we would be probably used up! It is worth to come only to visit the Safari Park right here early and then end in the play paradise can be! A perfect day :D D Admission is not quite so cheap... but just when one uses the whole day it's okay. We would also recommend coming :)

  • With full bloom hydrangea shrubs up to 1. floor height and a lot of animals to look at, this was a huge experience (one should come here when the hydrangea bushes is blown out). Many different animals, as one would clap and get really close to. We were 3 generations away, and we saw a lot, and we relaxed at the playground. See you soon again.

  • Skønt sted foe hele familien.
  • Fantastic experience! We all had a great fun. Its a drive through safari park with lots of animals and birds to see. It also has a large play area with a water slide. Make sure to carry extra pair of clothes :) Little less than 2 hours of drive from Copenhagen it is a perfect one day visit location. They also have options of staying overnight.
  • Lots of animals, and they are up close and visible unlike a lot of other zoo's
  • Awesome destination for the whole family.
