Koldinghus, Kolding

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web
At Koldinghus, see where Danish kings received foreign ambassadors, presided over the high court, and held banquets and balls. The castle was originally built as a fortress in 1268, but it also served as a royal residency. Today, it houses a museum. See the collections of old furniture, Roman and Gothic church culture, and old Danish paintings. A fire that broke out in 1808 left the castle in ruins. The north side, facing the castle lake, is the oldest part still standing. See how some other parts--such as the south wing and the chapel--were only partially restored in order to maintain the memory of this dramatic episode. • This museum is worth the visit. The re design of the building has made this stop great to see. It has modern information combined with history..
  • I have visited lots of times, and Koldinghus Castle is always worth a visit. Their special exhibitions are usually really exciting, and it's just exciting to be on the old palace in the beautiful surroundings.

  • We spent 4-5 hours to see all parts of Koldinghus Castle, Castle Church, CHR. III's banqueting hall, Chapel, Tower, Giant Trumpets Tower, Madkælderen, Museum, Fabergé exhibition and exhibitions from Design School. Everything is well-orchestrated, except that the signage/advertising of dining spot in Madkellederen was hard to find.

  • Lovely to see as it's right in the center of Kolding. Bit pricey for what's on show in the museum but nonetheless it was nice.
  • A must go in Kolding. Nice castle, with usually nice exhibitions. In December a very nice Xmas market take place inside the castle.
  • A great place to visit with modern architecture embedded in a historic building.
  • The old castle in Kolding is worth a visit. Filled with different kinds of art and a great dining option in the cellar makes this a romantic destination.
  • I arrived at 16:30 and they wouldn't let me visit, although it says it is open every day from 10 to 17 :-(
