Koldinghus, Kolding

(4.3/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
At Koldinghus, see where Danish kings received foreign ambassadors, presided over the high court, and held banquets and balls. The castle was originally built as a fortress in 1268, but it also served as a royal residency. Today, it houses a museum. See the collections of old furniture, Roman and Gothic church culture, and old Danish paintings. A fire that broke out in 1808 left the castle in ruins. The north side, facing the castle lake, is the oldest part still standing. See how some other parts--such as the south wing and the chapel--were only partially restored in order to maintain the memory of this dramatic episode. • As always was Koldinghus an experience. Impossible to visit without you noticing new little things that are overlooked by previous visits. This time it was also DM for jewelers! A nice little bonus experience. Unfortunately, probably found the site, after all, is not exactly handicap friendly so the now slightly older, tired legs going at work. But the site is the job "must" when Kolding visited.

  • A cultural tour time in the castle of Kolding before dinner in the castle itself. Actually, there is nothing special to see. Internally all ruins around which modern wood beams were mounted.

  • Ideal to visit during a rainy day. It is a beautiful restored Castle. What is there to see? Expedition jade, porcelain, silver, costume ...

  • This is a must see. They have done an amazing job at retaining the history of the building and have done a great job at presenting the building and the information about it. If you can, a must see.
  • Marvelous castle and very thoughtful restoration. It is a beautiful piece of Danish history, obviously well cherished. The new supporting structure inside is a masterpiece on its own.
  • History so well told, beautifully restored, always beautiful exhibitions. Plus a very very good restaurant.
  • Beautiful combinatie of Old and New!
  • Lovely to see as it's right in the center of Kolding. Bit pricey for what's on show in the museum but nonetheless it was nice.
