Café Trapholt, Kolding

(4.3/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Discover Nanna Ditzel's furniture, Richard Mortensen paintings, and Arne Jacobsen's Kubeflex home at Café Trapholt. A team of architects designed the museum around a long wall reminiscent of the "running fence" project by the Bulgarian-American landscape artist Christo. The interior of the long wall serves as a museum walkway, which separates the parking lot from the sculpture garden. Bring a packed lunch for a picnic in the apple orchard overlooking Kolding Fjord. The museum also houses collections of handicrafts, mainly pottery and textiles, and contemporary Danish furniture, including more than 500 chairs from the 20th century. Put Café Trapholt on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kolding vacation trip planner.

  • Are you interested in Danish design, modern painting or Arne Jacobsen, then visit Trapholt. Their permanent exhibition of Danish chairs are inspiring (and can be expensive if you get the urge to one of the chairs at home), their painting collection of challenging and thought-provoking and Arne Jacobsen's holiday home a fun, interesting time warp. Add to that many interesting special exhibitions and a good Museum Shop, then you have the mix that makes the Trapholt Art Museum is well worth a visit!

  • We had the whole family at the Trapholt Art Museum in winter holidays. The large (8 years) were enrolled in the workshop "Artists for a day" with the artist Nadia Plesner slouch. Not enough with that Nadia is a still human she managed to engage and inspire all the 30 children in the workshop. The small (3 years) was on animal hunting around the Museum and was very captivated by the exciting works. Subsequently we all enjoyed a delicious buffet in the cosy cafe and enjoyed views of Kolding Fjord. We certainly come again!
