  • Really nice little church with a great history, the beautiful frescoes, however, I would like to have had the opportunity to look closer. I can recommend looking on the Church's own website if you plan tourist visits, where you can see if the Church will be used on the day you want to view it, and at what time.

  • The graet vikingking Gorm the old is probably the on laying under the floor here.
  • Nice....
  • The rune-stones are a must see for all interested in viking history, marking the birth certificate of Denmark and of great historic value for all the Scandinavian countries.
  • Located next to the stone that represents the adoption of Christianity as the main religion of the Vikings
  • Super nice Church and so are Rune stones right on your doorstep. It can definitely be recommended to take a tour. As a visible expression of the transition to his new faith Harald traveled a large wooden church in Jelling. From the archaeologists found in the late 1970s, post holes, when they found the burial chamber. The Church and the burial chamber was built as a unified whole, so presumably the Church erected as a mausoleum of Gorm the Old. This first wooden church burned. As did two later wooden churches, which we also found traces of. The current travertine Church located on the early wooden churches, is built around the year 1100, and with the reversal of Carm remains, the Church is again a royal burial church, as Harald Bluetooth has wanted it. Jelling Kirke is the parish church. However, can we talk about the whole and the Danish Church. Thousands of Danish and foreign guests visit every year the Church. Church decoration in 1999 established the Folketing Year 2000 Fund with former Chairman of the Folketing, Erling Olsen, as President. The Fund had, among other things. the task to organize a dignified official selection by the turn of the Millennium. The framework for the official selection were Jelling Church, where the Year 2000 Foundation donated an interior artistic decoration. That was for the occasion composed a orgelmusik work, "it's so favrt in Jelling to rest" by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgren. Ornamental work was conducted during the period april to december 2000. On 3 december 2000 the Church was again taken into use by a Millennium service attended by Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Prime minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and a number of representatives of the official Denmark. Pulpit and lydhimmel the pulpit is in the Renaissance style from ca. 1650, but Christ pictures in these fields are considerably younger. Note the Royal monograms in lydhimlen, from Christian V and above after having been inflicted monogrammerne of the Danish monarchs, who have visited the Church. Apostle of the shapes in tårnrum seen on the North wall of the Church six Apostle figures from around 1500. There have probably been twelve, but the six disappeared around the year 1900. Of the remaining known easiest Peder with key and John with the Cup. Women's shape is a Christian Saint and martyr Catherine of Alexandra. Cut in a different artistic style can be seen on the south wall the last six Apostles with their symbols. They are done to the Church in the context of a restoration in the 1970s by teacher Henry Bayer in Jelling. Nave nave "Minerva" is a 3-masted full rigged ship, built by the former. ship's Carpenter Martin Hansen, Copenhagen, and is a model of a full-rigged ship he sailed with in his young days. The nave is donated by Christiane R and daughter Myrtle in memory of her husband and his father, Captain Anders Rasmussen. It was hung in the Jelling Church on 25. juni1944. 1 the ship's hull had to be closed down a ship's paper, but what it says on this, is not known. Captain Anders Rasmussen was the father of vicar in Jelling, Helge Rasmussen, who was pastor from 1933 til1963. The altar of the Church's new altar is performed in the same reddish granite as the floor. Art panes in the South carried out in French block glass. Østrudens red hues exude morning red and throws his light on udsmykningens basic rocks, alter the table and further out in the Church room. The organ the organ was built in 1960 by Marcussen & Son and is originally equipped with 14 votes on 2 manual works and pedal work. In connection with the celebration of the Millennium was the organ extended with 2 rørstemmer, Bassoon and trumpet. The organ was turned 90 degrees, so that it's got a great location relative to the Church By the Church's consecration d. 3 december 2000, was organ work: "it's so favrt in Jelling to rest" listed. The work was composed for the occasion by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgren.
