M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, Helsingoer

4.3
#2 of 23 in Things to do in Helsingoer
The collections of M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark tell the story of Denmark as one of the world's leading shipping nations. Follow the sloping bridges down to the old dry dock between Kronborg Castle and The Culture Yard to enter the underground museum. The exhibitions feature a fleet of merchant ships and personal stories linked to the museum's collections from the past four centuries. Interactive installations and games provide opportunities for playing and learning together with others. Experience the role of the captain, or sit behind the desk of the shipping executive conducting world trade in today's marketplace. Many exhibits are expressed using a set design and a film projected directly onto the architecture of the building. Put M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark and other Helsingoer attractions into our Helsingoer vacation route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

Very good museum of maritime history of Elsinore and also from World War II history. The Museum is located in the old dry dock in the port of Elsinore, very easy to find there. Just take aim at Kronoborgs castle when you walk off the ferry in Helsingør and you'll find there! Think the entry is located on over 200 Dkr for 2 adults, and there is also a Legohörna for the youngest! Refreshments available too! Well worth a visit!

Already when you come to the site you can see that there has been a lot of skilled architects inside over this project. Super cool to convert a doc to a fat museum of Danish Maritime History. The Museum is created in a good way, so that we as customers can be enabled in several ways, making for ideal for all ages. Please note that this site also can be used with Copenhagen Card

The Museum is very modern with the use of modern tools for visualizing the exhibitions. Much to look at related to the Danish maritime history from the old sailing ship to today's modern container ships

Innovative and interesting. I am not a fan of the trend to "multimedia" and "mini"-information but this is one of the better efforts. Unfortunately nothing replaces the shipyard and its peak 20000 workers.

One of my all time favorite museums. Very well designed in a cool location with lots of interesting, informative displays. Truly loved it.

This museum is very interesting and the building's architecture is amazing (designed by BIG). There are several different sections to visit as you walk around the museum's boat shaped layout, with the last section changing periodically (currently it is an exhibit about Sex and the Sea). Some of the exhibits, especially the WWII one, can be sad and/or emotional, so be prepared. Overall this is a great museum, plus if you visit Kronborg Castle next door, you get a discount on the museum tickets, which can be combined with the student discounts.

In many ways a wasted oppertunity, lots of funky lighting and history telling. Could have been great if more of the current shipping experience was available.

The best museum I have ever been and propably one of a very few museums I want to visit again and again.
