Specialty Museum Museum
The collections of M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark tell the story of Denmark as one of the world's leading shipping nations. Follow the sloping bridges down to the old dry dock between Kronborg Castle and The Culture Yard to enter the underground museum. The exhibitions feature a fleet of merchant ships and personal stories linked to the museum's collections from the past four centuries. Interactive installations and games provide opportunities for playing and learning together with others. Experience the role of the captain, or sit behind the desk of the shipping executive conducting world trade in today's marketplace. Many exhibits are expressed using a set design and a film projected directly onto the architecture of the building. • If you are in the area and are interested in shipping and the sea, this is an outstanding museum and well worth the visit. The way the museum has made use of the old dock is quite fantastic.  more »
  • This museum is almost invisible if one is just looking horizontally. But it is really an architectural marvel being built below ground level in an open pit. It appears that the architect had forgotten...  more »

  • Innovative and interesting. I am not a fan of the trend to "multimedia" and "mini"-information but this is one of the better efforts. Unfortunately nothing replaces the shipyard and its peak 20000 workers.
  • One of my all time favorite museums. Very well designed in a cool location with lots of interesting, informative displays. Truly loved it.
  • This museum is very interesting and the building's architecture is amazing (designed by BIG). There are several different sections to visit as you walk around the museum's boat shaped layout, with the last section changing periodically (currently it is an exhibit about Sex and the Sea). Some of the exhibits, especially the WWII one, can be sad and/or emotional, so be prepared. Overall this is a great museum, plus if you visit Kronborg Castle next door, you get a discount on the museum tickets, which can be combined with the student discounts.
  • In many ways a wasted oppertunity, lots of funky lighting and history telling. Could have been great if more of the current shipping experience was available.
  • The best museum I have ever been and propably one of a very few museums I want to visit again and again.
