  • Felt a bit upphaussat. Nice and interesting. It was a relaxing walk in the dark, and echo. Entrepriset was a bit high for visitor content.

  • A trip to the Fredriksberg and the castle's park gave us a natural drop by Cisternene. These water magazines from the ancient time in Copenhagen hides old secrets about the storage of the city's water. Cisternene is worth a visit and should be experienced. The story of Cisternene recommended read before you go down under the ground. The huge volume that these once the room of water is impressive.

  • Enjoyed walking through the park and visiting royal cistern. Fun walk for couples and families. A meditative serene setting. Cedar wood installation enhances environs.  more »

  • It's fun and interesting - but not much information provided to explain why it's significant
  • Five stars for the current exhibit Sambuichi. Immersive sensory installation
  • I love cisterns - the one in Istanbul is absolutely stunning, for instance. This one is OK - it has that underground atmosphere, but there's not much else (some historical background is provided though). Surrounding park is really pretty.
  • Tucked away under a glass pyramid in a park, The Cisterns are a chilly insight into the past. When we visited in May 2016 the "corridors" were illuminated by candles and the videos from the art installation currently making use of the unique location. Not something that would necessarily be an obvious place to visit when on holiday but definitely worth checking out, particularly as entry is included in the Copenhagen Card. The installations change over time but I'd say it's worth a visit anyway just for the architecture. If it's a hot day I'd recommend taking a jumper with you as it's pretty chilly underground.
  • We've had mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand the Cisterns provide a very special atmosphere on the other hand the exhibition (Eva Koch - That Dream of Peace) we saw didn't really meet our expectations as we expected slightly more content, but probably we just didn't understand it right. Generally you should be prepared that water still gets into the Cisterns, so there some smaller and bigger water puddles, therefore wearing sandals may not be the best idea. Also the temperature fluctuates between 16°C in August and 4° in February, so you may want to take warmer clothes down there.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
