the museum shows how earth evolved in very few but resonable ways. enough to make it interesting when you go down to the outdoor area and search yourself. we were a 7, 8 , 9 y-o and found loads of int...  more »

Visited the Museum together with thirty 60 + mature, as not all were equally Museum mitten. Thanks to a spirited guide were all agreed that it was an excellent introduction to a geeky topic, where a whopping asteoride for 60 million years ago hit the ground, destroying the climate and wiped out the dinosaurs. After the lecture, we were on an exciting hunt for fossils and shark's teeth down in the lime quarry. I even found a Tetracorallia. PLUG THE ...

Exciting exhibition, though somewhat thin and deficient for the price. Nice views of the limestone quarry, which is also worth a visit.

It is a known problem that culture funds provide for buildings, but not to the content. Geomuseet is probably the worst example I've experienced yet. For 60 kr per adult you can elsewhere e.g. experience the Thorvaldsens museum and other priceless gems with hours of content and experience. At Stevns do you get access to a single space with some fossils and posters. On the way to the room passes to a corresponding large space with skeletons, that plays rock music. We could instead have illustrated the 900 years of limestone mining, promised at the posters outside. Historical tools, designed with limestone? I still do not know what the chalk at all should be used for. For comparison, e.g. Rammelsbergminen in the Harz mountains-here one can live an exemplary experience different standard mining and tools. But back to the Stevns: in space upstairs there are fossils of such as shark's teeth and parts of other animals, without pictures or anything that can illustrate the finds a bit too non-geologists. What with illustrations of how coral reefs, plants and animals actually looked at that time? Interactivity is limited to a single old screen about the size of an Ipad. A few plasticdyr hung from the ceiling. Outside shows a sign down to a so-called look-out platform, where the view is significantly worse than that, where the sign says. Here, one might indeed have some solid tables where visitors could add and examine their findings. As well as some posters about what you typically can find. And that is how it all the way through. Without the head and tail, entirely without a sense of dissemination; an exciting material with great tourism potential is lost completely and utterly on the floor. The absolute only plus is that you can borrow hammer and chisel without paying the 20 kr in rent, even a hopeless sign calls for. Our children thought it was exciting to pick in the limestone. And the view is beautiful; especially if you stick from the lookout platform. But views and limestone quarry can easily be experienced without walking on the utterly hopeless museum. GID Stevns municipality's cultural management would send some competent knowledge intermediaries in addition to the Museum and give it a proper overhaul. I think even I, that nothing about geology, could do better.

Nice Museum, exhibits and cataloged a large number of fossils that can be found in the quarry. Well worth a visit before going in the cava (cava free access and no fee), to learn about what "search" and then get an explanation where to look for fossils (which you can take home).

A small but nice museum where the findings to the woman who created the Foundation for the Museum was the most exciting part. Nice area to go in.
