Tycho Brahe Planetarium, Copenhagen

1.7
#5 of 7 in Childrens Museums in Zealand
Find the answers to some of the mysteries of space at Tycho Brahe Planetarium. The big dome-shaped screen in the space theater will make you feel like you are part of the movie. Watch IMAX and 3-D movies that can transport you on a journey to the infinite universe, back to the dinosaur era, or below sea level. The planetarium gives a brief introduction to the current night sky before each show. The permanent exhibit on astronomy and space travel features one of the largest pieces of moon rock in the world. • I was expecting more but was disappointed. The exhibition wasn't worth seeing but we did see an IMAX movie on dinosaurs which was interesting. The first 15mins was a short space movie. I thought there...  more »
  • This was a little disappointing. It provides a lot of information but sometimes only in Danish which is difficult for a tourist.  more »
  • We were 2 adults with our grandson on 5. Had phoned and ordered 3 tickets but there were only reserved 2. So our good seats were occupied. Had asked about the film was for children of 5 years and the answer was Yes. It certainly does not fit. We saw the film with dinosaur and had to go after 10 min. Staff know nothing. On the website I was inside after following and it says the film is unsuitable for children under 7 years. So it is a lot of money for nothing.

  • I think this place needs a serious overhaul. The website listed the opening time for 9.30 and when I arrived it said 10.30 on the door. I raised this with one of the young staff (they are all students it seems) and she sort of shrugged and I asked her to tell a manager so it could be updated. The exhibits are tired and dated. I was here over ten years ago (it was exciting then) but is has not aged well. A lot of the screen do not respond when touched and there is not always English translations available. The only redeeming factor is the IMAX movie which is well worth seeing. I think this is not great value for money and kids will get bored easily - go for the movie and don't expect anything else.
  • A scarcely plausible planetarium attended to by innocent but lifeless student staff, broken exhibits, inescapable ennui, discount fidget spinners and Copenhagen's worst coffee machine. Gave two stars because my daughter liked the documentary they'd scraped together the budget to import, 'Search for Life in Space'. Needs a complete rethink to shed the 80s concepts and 90s technology. Avoid until that mystical day.
  • A small planetarium. The exhibits are all in danish and there's no English explanation. 20 to 30 minute walk through the exhibit . The IMAX movie was very good but you have to climb six or seven flights of stairs to get there. Not for the people that cannot climb over 200 stairs. Not sure if it's wheelchair friendly or not.
  • To enter the exhibits and the planetarium show, you have to buy a ticket for an, in oir case completely unrelated, Imax movie. It is included in the Copenhagen card and the seats in the theatre are extremely comfortable. In fact I took a great nap there during the movie! You can need earphones to get the movie in English (20DKK) but if you have standard earphones on you (mini-jack) you can just plug those into your seat and save some cash.
  • The permanent exhibit seemed to be focused on educating kids. The information provided was very basic and did not seem to be able to convey the excitement that a topic such as the universe usually carries with it. The interactive media was clumsily executed and the imax movies were not necessarily space-themed. Good for a quick stroll on a lazy day but nothing for science-enthusiasts. 2 instead of one star for the meteorites and the moon-rock.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
