Frederiksberg Have, Copenhagen

4.7
#3 of 23 in Parks in Copenhagen
Nature / Park
Enjoy the natural landscape of one of the largest green spaces in Denmark at Frederiksberg Have. Originally established in connection with the construction of Frederiksberg Palace, the park was designed as an English-style landscape garden, complete with winding paths, lakes, large trees, waterfalls, and grottoes. It is now a nice place to have a picnic, hold group gatherings, feed the ducks and swans, or simply take a leisurely walk. Stop by the castle in the middle of the park, or take a boat ride. Be sure to check out the famous "elephant viewpoint," where visitors can often catch glimpses of the elephants at the neighboring zoo. Make Frederiksberg Have a centerpiece of your Copenhagen vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Copenhagen trip builder.

  • We were twice on the same day because it is very extensive, and it cannot be visited in a single walk. It seemed to us a place beautiful and relaxing, worthy of a city so wonderful as Copenhagen. If you are visiting this wonderful city, you should enjoy a good walk by this place.

  • This is a great place to visit on the way to or back from Elsinore Castle, and free to wander round the castle outer area and gardens if you don't want to do the museum inside.  more »
  • It's very peaceful to go for a walk in the garden, much to see, and.. so not so peaceful to eat there, but it was enough because there was completely filled up with families with children of all ages. Good Danish lunch on most sites, and I'm definitely coming back to try out other places to eat.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
