Designmuseum Danmark, Copenhagen

3.8
Art Museum · Hidden Gem · History Museum
Designmuseum Danmark showcases a relatively small collection of Danish design classics from phones and stereos to chairs and kitchen utensils. Look for Royal Copenhagen and Georg Jensen tableware. Each year the center also features a number of special exhibits on both Danish and international design. The building houses a gift shop, conference rooms, and a cafe offering a traditional cafe layout in a modern lounge environment. Get a quick cup of coffee to go while roaming through the exhibits, or stay put for a cup of tea and a croissant. • The Danes have a knack for designing items for functionality, amusement and/or aesthetics. That's all on display at the Designmuseum. The first exhibit is all about everyday objects, and is the...  more »

  • It's quite expensive to enter and, thankfully, not that big. If you like a chair then there is an exhibit on Danish chairs that will suit you. At the time of our visit, there was also an exhibit on...  more »

  • The exhibits were awesome and I loved seeing the wall of danish chairs. Some of the information cards were placed in ways that made it difficult to know which item it was referring to. The washroom doors had locks that were broken or functioned really strangely as did the motion sensors for the sink faucets. As a design museum, I would expect the public features to be user friendly.
  • Museum nicely done. Very nice exhibits on historic and modern danish design. The museum shop is slightly disappointing, I was expecting a bit more local designers’ products rather than the bigger brands.
  • Fantastic museum with a great number of exhibits. Overall it'll take you 1-2 hours to get a good sense of everything. Must visit whilst in Copenhagen!
  • It's a good place to get to know more about Danish design. Would be even more interesting if you could touch and try the furniture to be able to feel the similarities and differences. Besides that all was good!
  • One of my favorite design museums, a must visit for any design professional or student. The museum has existed since at least 1930 (!) to exhibit Danish design. To understand today’s trends, one must understand how design has evolved, and Danish design has been at the center of contemporary modern design. The whole museum can be viewed in under 2 hours, and there’s a cafe to enjoy some smørrebrød in the outdoor courtyard. Furniture takes center stage, with a mix of bicycles as well as personal electronics.
