  • You can't visit the Little Mermaid without a walk through at least part of the park and unless it's lashing down with rain, it's worth exploring a bit further. There are plenty of statues and memorial...  more »
  • If you go to Copenhagen you have to come back to this park. Very characteristic the Church which is at the entrance. The Park is very nice as there are a number of ups and downs where you can see glimpses of the city and sea views. Inside the park there are a number of military buildings, then there are guns, and there is a pond that surrounds all the greenery. The colors in the fall of this park are exceptional. Definitely worth a visit.

  • A beautiful small park between the city and the citadel, Kastellet. Beautiful with the water bordering it to the north but the open terrain to the traffic to the south retracts a little from the overall experience
  • Small but nice park surrounded by channels and trees. Perfect for a small rax after visiting the mermaid.
  • Wonderful place to take a stroll and chill. There's actually another hill here which is star shaped if viewed from the top. Very peaceful and by the sea. Close to the little mermaid statue as well.
  • Nice park, with memorials to stop you from forgetting other peoples sacrifices.
  • Unfortunately the presence of the wonderful Botanical Gardens prevents this from being remembered as Copenhagen's most beautiful gardens, but the proximity to the water and the shade of the trees makes this worth a visit.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
