Christiania, Copenhagen

1.8
Breathe in some fresh air at Christiania, a car-free neighborhood of free-spirited Copenhagen. Home to about 800 permanent residents, this district covers approximately 35 hectares (84 acres) and functions as a self-governing community. Famous for its relaxed atmosphere and brightly colored houses, the area attracts nonconformists from around the world with its collective workshops and communal living. Venture farther away from the neighborhood's famous main street to discover a world of green gardens, beer halls, music venues, and gift shops. Although you cannot drive into the neighborhood itself, you can leave your car just outside it and join a guided walking tour at the main entrance. • It is a very but very but very special place. Come to Copenhagen and not go to see Christiania is a true snack. Sacate prejudices and open your head and you heart

  • A reality aside, nice and colorful. Here there is one law having fun. A country made of bar, music and many stalls selling various kinds of smoke and grass and various kinds. Ideal to spend a pleasant vacation day! Grass great!!! ENJOI

  • Intrigued I wanted to visit the alternative district of Copenhagen, the impression is that of a hippie now season waned, a picture of slovenly nature, cramped and dirty streets with colorful houses, the neighborhood is perhaps most valued by the Green and the nearby channels, from small dwellings and selling, you will encounter the smoldering young and elderly exponents of youthful rebellion of years. The visit can be done safely and I am glad I visited

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
