Changing of her Majesty's guard at Amalienborg Castle, Copenhagen

3.2
Watch Changing of her Majesty's guard at Amalienborg Castle in the square in front of the four identical Rococo royal palaces. Every day the guards march from their barracks by Rosenborg Castle through the city streets to arrive at Amalienborg at noon. There are three different types of watches that can be put into place to secure the palace, and the size of the fanfare of this ceremony depends the type of watch in place (this varies according to which members of the royal family are currently residing in the palace). The king's watch is the only one with the Danish flag present. Larger watches are joined by the music and tambour corps. We waited for this fateful change of guard. Very cute uniforms and those hats steal definitely some pictures but they don't deserve that kind of time that it takes to change three guards. ... After the first and better switch to other shores

We were at noon during the week to the changing of the guard. The changing of the guard itself was rather unspectacular, and unfortunately the place was crowded totally, so that one has seen nothing more or less. Who has never seen a changing of the guard, can go there like once. Otherwise found the whole thing is not very worthwhile.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
