Botanical Garden, Copenhagen

4.5
#2 of 405 in Parks in Denmark
For a free lesson about Denmark's rich plant life, visit Botanical Garden, an oasis of greenery in the city's central district. The extensive park encompasses more than 10 hectares (24 acres) and serves both educational and recreational purposes. A complex of 27 greenhouses are historic buildings from the 1870s that now shelter domestic and exotic plant species, including palms, cacti, orchids, and begonias. A special climate-controlled greenhouse recreates the habitat suitable for growing Arctic plants, while another building protects a large collection of cycad plants, some of which are more than a century old. • For a green thumb or a fan of gardens is an obligatory visit to Copenhagen: nice to see (greenhouses and Park) in goni season

  • A very nice garden with a beautiful tropical House. In the middle of the town a tranquil oasis. Nice terrace next to the tropical House.

  • One of the more unique spaces in Copenhagen. A wonderful variety of plants and stunning gardens. You aren't allowed to hang out on the grass or bring in your bikes since it almost has a museum-like atmosphere. Definitely check out the greenhouse.
  • Really nice place to make a picnic with friends. The botanical garden has lots of tropical plants. The bad thing is that you only can go to the humid tropical garden. The other are closed
  • A great place too enjoy. If you have good weather in copenhagen explore the botanic Garden. A big green house with so much different kinds of plants from all over the World and climate zones. And it is for free!
  • Beautiful gardens and wonderful nature in the heart of Copenhagen. Always worth a visit! Sit and relax in the gardens on the grass or benches.
  • You've got to go here! The garden is free to walk around in and is very stunning. Don't go up the small passageways with stairs if you don't like snakes. But do climb the spiral staircase to walk around the large greenhouse in the center of the park.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.
