Botanical Garden, Copenhagen

(4.5/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
For a free lesson about Denmark's rich plant life, visit Botanical Garden, an oasis of greenery in the city's central district. The extensive park encompasses more than 10 hectares (24 acres) and serves both educational and recreational purposes. A complex of 27 greenhouses are historic buildings from the 1870s that now shelter domestic and exotic plant species, including palms, cacti, orchids, and begonias. A special climate-controlled greenhouse recreates the habitat suitable for growing Arctic plants, while another building protects a large collection of cycad plants, some of which are more than a century old. Botanical Garden is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Copenhagen Edition.

  • Nice grounds, although wrong time of year for the best flowers. The Palm House is interesting and a great place to warm up on a cold day!  more »
  • A wonderful place to wander through and free. Check out the exotic plants in the green houses or just enjoy all the trees outside. PLenty of lakes and wildlife too.  more »

  • The Botanical Garden is a beautiful park, but not particularly in winter. But the old Palm House from cast iron and glass, a greenhouse from 1874, then again is extra special. And warm. High and partly round, 2 floors, accessible by winding stairs. And filled with tall plants like bamboo, bananas and cocoa. Great for pictures! In winter, restricted opening scedule: October 1 - MARCH 31: Tuesday-Sunday 10-15
  • Must place to visit when in Copenhagen. Totally free. Nice to visit any time of the year. Try the palm house.
  • Probably went at a bad time of year as not much was in bloom! Also worth noting that the tropical greenhouses aren't open on Mondays. Nice way to spend some time in Copenhagen.
  • Nice place to hide during cold winter time, park around seems to be nice place to stay during summer. If you like tropical plants, you can spend even an hour there.
  • I love this place. I often go here to study on the grass or in the "orangerie". Just enjoying the green and beautiful space. Great for small celebrations too before going for a bigger celebration-dinner for example.
