Botanical Garden, Copenhagen

Garden Nature / Park
For a free lesson about Denmark's rich plant life, visit Botanical Garden, an oasis of greenery in the city's central district. The extensive park encompasses more than 10 hectares (24 acres) and serves both educational and recreational purposes. A complex of 27 greenhouses are historic buildings from the 1870s that now shelter domestic and exotic plant species, including palms, cacti, orchids, and begonias. A special climate-controlled greenhouse recreates the habitat suitable for growing Arctic plants, while another building protects a large collection of cycad plants, some of which are more than a century old. Botanical Garden is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Copenhagen Edition.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

Most of the hotels in Copenhagen are located in the central Vesterbro or hip Indre By areas, though there are many more adventurous (and somewhat more affordable) places to stay during your vacation. As in the rest of Denmark, accommodations in Copenhagen are quite expensive. If you're traveling on a tight budget, consider camping along the Mølleå River or staying in one of the city's many backpacker hostels. If you prefer an inexpensive hotel, explore options in the Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade neighborhoods. For a taste of Denmark's art scene, head to the up-and-coming Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn areas. Travelers who like to stay outside of the main tourist areas should set their sights on one of the city's suburbs, like the northern section where you can stay at a beachfront hotel or on a houseboat.

  • Most definitely worth a visit. It's free and in the center of the city. Of course it's the most breathtaking in the summer time, but personally I enjoy taking walks here in the Spring time and seeing the wild natural flowers growing around the trees from around the world. If you ever need a break from traffic and bicycles go here. It's a public sanctuary with small hidden nooks and crannies around the lake. It's also part of The Park Museums alongside a great variety of collections in different museums all located in a walking distance of five minutes from The Botanical Garden.
  • Really nice place! I visited the garden in Spring and the area was already green and beautiful. It's good for a brief walk or a morning jog, but you can get your day spent going around all the bushes.
  • The botanical gardens were lovely. Flowers blooming everywhere- tulips, rhododendrons and narcissus. There were places where you could lie in the grass and relax. And the greenhouses were warm (and crazy humid!) when we needed a break from the wind. And it's all free! One of the best parts of Copenhagen.
  • Free to look around this lovely garden in Copenhagen. Good place to have your packed lunch. Very nice planting and a very impressive palm house.
  • One if the best place to have harmony with the nature and green. Place is full of fragrance and fresh oxygen. Green green green everywhere and colorful with flowers.
