Hammershus, Bornholm

(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Hammershus played a central role in the centuries-long battle for power between Danish bishops and kings. The castle, surrounded by rings of fortifications, was erected in the 13th century on a cliff 74 m (243 ft) above sea level. It was long believed that the castle was built for the archbishop of Lund, but it is more likely that it served as a royal residence and a base for the Danish crusades. Walk along the remains of the great stone wall stretching 750 m (2,460 ft) around the castle grounds. From a grand "mantel" tower, you can take in a view of the coastline. • It was truly a memorable night of my life when I stood on the ruins of the Hammarhusetin Castle at sunset elokuisena the night before. There was a high wind. It felt like that all the time, but became a more surprising and more photos. It was really a wonderful experience.

  • My husband and I visited the ruins of hammershus, in January. It was perfect. We have been here several times. But never, at this time of year. We had hammershus, for ourselves. Had taken the finest images of the ruins and prospect. The site must be experienced, and gives plenty of opportunity for a wonderful nature experience. Recommended.

  • Worth a visit.

  • There are toilets if you need it before or after a good walk around the ruins of Hammershus. Kiosk and serving is a bit expensive and they get enough problems with turnover when the new visitor center will be ready. The exhibition is interesting and there is a small souvenir shop.

  • Good, but a bit expensive (which may be due to their Hammershus-monopoly on beverages and ice cream).
