Lindholm Hoeje Museum, Aalborg

4.3
#1 of 15 in Museums in Aalborg
Located on an old Viking burial site, Lindholm Hoeje Museum represents an authentic place to learn about Viking culture. As you stand on the site, 700 ancient graves stretch out before you. The stone tombstones are well preserved on this archaeological site, which dates back to 400-1,000 CE, and the wandering sheep add to the serene panoramic view. The attached museum offers you a look into traditional Viking houses and display artifacts that were found on excavation of the grounds. Visiting the grounds is free, but the museum charges an admission. • Had actually been looking forward to getting homemade vol-au-vent, which from description, size and price, lay on what I would call ' classical Nordjydsk '. And it was also classic Nordjydsk, but it was cold, and far from the experience I was hoping for (probably because it was warm to cold). However, it was cheap, and there are now very cosy in the restaurant, especially bearing in mind that it is a museum. The operation seemed to be voluntary, and entirely at the top. Thanks for the food.

  • The museum was a good time. I especially liked that other languages were offered so I'd know what I was looking at. The BEST part was the Viking burial grounds!  more »
  • The area is great with a good overview of the limfjord and stone phrases, where the former settlements lay. The location of the settlement was in the dawn of time chosen because, we had views of the fjord, and could see, when there were ships which have not had the best of intentions. But it was many years before Lindholm Høje Museum was built. The Museum houses a very interesting collection of objects that people used to make everyday life easier. A truly recommendable exhibition. Highly recommended for all ages.

  • Loved the museum. The burial site is also amazing. Can really feel the history!
  • If you are interested in history must visit. Very informative and interesting. Also has a very good cafe.
  • Nice quiet park/picknick area. Good overview of the site and burial ground. Also very clear museum.
  • A fascinating visit. Well laid out with clear explanations in good English.
  • You could spend a day visiting Lindholm Hoje Museet. History, life and culture come together. Put time aside for a relaxing lunchbreak and afternoon tea/coffee all provided by the cook, better known as the 'food daddy'.
