Landmark Tourist Spot
Slavkov Castle is a Baroque palace in Slavkov u Brna, in the Czech Republic. The small town and the castle are chiefly known for the Battle of Austerlitz.HistoryA first castle at the site was erected by the Teutonic Knights in the early 12th century, then the seat of a commandry within their Bohemian bailiwick. In the early 16th century it passed to the Moravian noble house of Kaunitz (Kounicové) who had it rebuilt in a Renaissance style. The present-day palace with 115 rooms was erected from 1696 onwards according to plans designed by the Italian architect Domenico Martinelli. The conversion was finished under Prince Wenzel Anton of Kaunitz-Rietberg more than fifty years later. The impressive garden in a French style modelled on the Gardens of Versailles was laid out in 1774. In the oval ceremonial hall (the "Historic Salon"), an armistice was signed between Austria and France after the Battle of Austerlitz on 6 December 1805. There is a small historic museum and a multimedia presentation about the battle.

  • It's a lock, given the competition, basically average. However, when the tour guide costume and figurants in period costume is definitely interesting. What's more, if you, as a visitor, you select and put on a tour of the costume, you have it for free.

  • Tour of the Castle, the castle garden. We were at the event lost secrets of the Crown, events for children, where they can get dressed in period costume. Let down by me just a garden, where the promised rent bow shooting, etc. But nothing.

  • Although the monument to the battle of the three emperors is out of the way (works), it was there that focuses tourist traffic, this at least which is associated with the famous Austerlitz. Which is a pity, that among the visitors to the monument of great history, much less well known is the Slavkov Castle, and what we find in this town. And you have to admit that doing it big. Is well restored, and with a big offer for visitors: a few thematic routes, which include the beautiful halls and lounges (Italian stucco work and frescoes on the ceilings), a modest gallery the old owners, the underworld, the magnificent large courtyard and well-kept Baroque French park (more than 15 hectares) with Italian statues and a fountain, a small historical Museum and a multimedia presentation of the battle. You can also here in a romantic atmosphere to eat well or listen to periodically organized (it seems great acoustics). A dysonansem of this almost idyllic climate is attached to the Garden Monument of gratitude the Soviet wojakom. I encourage you, however, very much to visit this magnificent monument.

  • Baroque chateau build by the Kounitz family in the 17th and 18th century. Famous for the battle of Austerlitz that has happened nearby. Napoleon spent couple of days at the chateau. The tour was very good - we have chosen the long one - it takes 90 minutes and shows both the representative rooms and the chambers.
  • A peaceful place
  • inspiring historic place
  • Beautiful castle with many possibilities what to do there.
  • Super!
